Default O RINGED CALIPERS

Has anyone here installed O ring kits from VBP in their calipers? If you have, did you notice how snug they fit in the caliper bores compared to the old lip style? Is this a good thing?

I just converted all four. I didn't think they were much snugger than the original seals, but a LOT easier to install. Are your calipers stainless sleeved? BTW, my brakes work great!

I just replied to this in another post.

The O-ring pistons are much tigher in the bores, more like all other calipers I have dealt with. The only loose calipers pistons I have ever seen are the OEM lip seal pistons I took out of the 82s calipers (they were already SS sleeved rebuilds).

I think they are soo tight that the springs behind them wont make a shizit bit of difference.

I agree with that! I was afraid they might be so tight that they wouldn't come out when you applied the brakes. What I had to do was after I had gravity bled them, I had to rebleed them because after the brakes were initially applied, the pistons came out of their bores like they should. Once this happened, there was that area behind the pistons was now almost empty and there wasn't enough fluid to firm up the pedal. After I bled them the 2nd time, the pedal was "BAM" right at the top. Awesome pedal now!!

My brakes showed up really nicely after the O-Ring kits also.

:iagree:

I just installed mine from VBP about 10 days ago. Pedal was a little mushy at first, although the brakes worked very well.

Re-bled, just great now. Check MC, if after an average firm stop, pedal starts to "go away" as you hold it for the red light, probably time for a new MC.
