Question from new member
Brand new member here. Any one out there know if GM alum intake casting #3933163 will fit under the stock hood of my 71 big block? I want to replace the heads with alum rectangular port heads but don't know what intake to use. I'm new the Corvette scene, been into muscle cars my whole life, but this is my first Vette and I love it! Thanks.

You have very few choices... 68-72 stock BB hood clearance is very close. You need to use a Corvette specific intake that is actually sunken compared to a standard Chev. There few if any aftermarket manifolds that will fit. TheIdeal thing would be an L-88 high rise hood..There are some people who have use some of the older tork II units but I personally have not tried it. Another problem is the oval port manifolds won't match the bigger head ports. Good luck :banghead:

Re: Question from new member (71SHARK454)
First of all welcome :D , As far as the intakes go, your only real choice in aluminum with a single 4bbl and the stock hood are the corvette LS-6 if you want rectangular port heads. As far as the oval port heads go you have a few more choices in aluminum with the stock hood, one being the 68-69 L-36 (390hp) intake this has a spreadbore pattern or the torker 2 (have both but haven't tried the torker yet), holley pattern single plane, both will fit under the stock hood. If you put on an L-88 hood you have a lot more choices since obviosly your very limited with the stock hood. Enjoy your Rat, I do mine.

Welcome,
I went with oval port heads and a Torker II, and I have very little spare room under the hood but it fits.

Re: Question from new member (71SHARK454)
Thanks for all of the feed back! I'm really lovin' this car, but it seems I am limited with the stock big block hood. The GM manifold that I asked about is for sale on ebay. The seller said he believed that this would work on my Vette, but was not positive. I checked some sources, but have not been able to get a definite answer.
