You guys notice the massive difference in tire sizing from front to back...

I wonder, cause when you run bigger rear tires then fronts it makes it want to plow... when ya run tiny fronts ya gain some cornering speed... but you cant command the car quite like ya could if they were equal.

Wonder what the story is on that!

tiny fronts give more cornering speed??? do you mean tiny as in smaller width (less road contact surface) ???? Those cars are set up with high roll centers, low centers of gravity and stiff suspension, therefore they don't have much body roll and all weight transfer is transferred into the tires, meaning they need wider tires to get a larger slip angle. Since when do skinny tires improve cornering speeds?? That's totally new to me.

It was a blast to see all the C3s racing at Laguna Seca 2 years ago! Its nice to see beautiful L-88s that aren't trailor Queens. That is the way a classic should be preserved- Driven hard and repaired when they break.

I will see if I can post the pictures I took when I was there. I Have a great picture of Mr. & Mrs Guldstrand kissing after he raced.

Goldie ran in my buddies brother's L88 at a few historic races since it has been completed. Dick built this same car for James Garner in 1968. The car was purchased by Jim herlinger in around 1971 and run in west coast events as a Coca-Cola sponsered car. The car won many races under Jim, not sure if there were any regional A production chapionships won (much better record than when it ran under A.I.R. banner for Garner.) There is a picture at the 1968 Daytona 24hrs race of a Vette differential being changed out in mid race, that is the A.I.R. car (they moved diffs up in Xmember then couldn't keep em cool on the track plus "green gears" didn't break in properly. Dick has recently called Jim Herlinger with an inquiry abot the car if it's for sale, Jim is a business man so anything has it's price. My buddy (Jim's brother Dave) who served as his crew cheif and did most of the drivetrain restoration on the current restoration is sick about the possibility of the car being sold. I hope Dave has the time and money to one day restore his L88, it is the first 1968 ever built on the St Louis line in November of 67 and was part of a 3 car deal for the A.I.R. team. Dave had hoped to someday be able to display the car alongside his brothers but, that may not happen if the other car is sold! Dave has helped me to understand the "ins and outs" of proper Corvette re-building/maintenance with his easy going and friendly attitude towards disclosing his hard earned expiriences of Corvette racing/repair since he opened his shop in 1972. You can do a web search for the A.I.R. team pictures and see some photos of these cars one of which was James Garner's street ride and was possibly the only L88 with a RADIO! Yes I know everyone will tell you they didn't come with one BUT testimony from the shop guy that drove this car to California from St Louis confirms that it had a radio! (it didn't work because of all the static according to his testimony) The December 1967 (I think the date is right) Corvette News article that covered the delivery of these cars describes them as the first 3 L88's delivered and presently the #3 street car is also now a race car (converted in the early 1970's to track use.) 3 or 4 of the L88's at Laguna were owned by a local guy named Bowman, he also owns the 1967 Tony DeLorenzo L88 roadster and it is being converted back into it's A production status from a pristine NCRS type restoration. My buddy Dave really wanted to help them cut that sucker up! he does all the transmissions, trailing arms, brakes, and differentials for the real race cars as it take a really qualified re-builder to make this stuff hold up to 600+HP L88's.

The Tony Delorenzo `69 L-88 that was raced in Germany in 1970 (by Curt Wetzel/ driver of my car 71-72) has just made it`s way back to the states, it has been living in Switzerland for years. Rumored price $70K the original motor, trans, gas tank, (factory) Kustom headers and roll bar are long gone...This is the Tuxedo black car Tony drove around Detroit with L-88/Zl-1 flares and endurance headlights in 1969. ...redvetracr
