Tire Size, 305/50/15 too big for rear?
I need to get tires and I would like to have the same diameter on front and back. The original size I believe were 225/70/15 which are approximately 27.5" tall. I currently have 255/60/15 on all four corners, which are about 27". The front tires are smooth and need to be replaced ASAP and the rear tires have some tread left and will need replacing in the not so distant future. I would like to go with a wide set in the back, 295/50/15 if they fit without any problems. From what I can see, I should have clearance to do so. Just because I think they will fit, doesn't necessarily mean that they will once they are on the car. Have other forum member put these on the rear and how did they fit. I do want to add that the car does have a 1/2" spacers on spindle between the rim and the rotor. They were there when I bought the car 20+ years ago. If I go with the 295 in the rear, then I would go with the 245/60/15 for the front.
My next choice would be to go to 255/60 for the front and 275/60 in the rear. The rear would be slightly taller and wider.
Any feedback would be appreciated. I would like to get them ordered in by the end of the week.
Mike
Edited: I should have said 295/50/15. I wanted the 305 but could not find them

I bought my 73 with 275/60s all around.
I dont recommend them for the front because they rub a little bit.

Where'd you find 305's?I was looking for a set when I did mine and BFG has discontinued them from what I heard.I ended up with 295's instead.

My mistake, I could not find 305/50. The tire I am asking about should be the 295.
Sorry for the confusion.

295 - 50's will work nicely on a 10" rim but they might stick out past the fenderwells depending on the backspacing. ;)
You may need to stick with a 60 series if you have 8 or 8.5" wide rims. :chevy

I think the wheel wells are the same dimensions on all the C-3's but don't quote me on that. All I know for sure is when I tried to get the 15x10's under the fender there was around an inch of rim sticking out past the fender lip.I returned them and got 15x9's and I feel the fit is perfect.
My website link is in my sig.And yes I'm still in Fayetteville.

'68-'69 are the same for trailing arms, mounting, etc........but our fenders are a different shape and somewhat more compact. ;)

This is a shot of my car with 305/50/15 tires. The strut rods are disconnected, the tire is held up with the lower one and the top of the tire is tilted out in this shot. It does fit within the fenderwell on my car.

I prefer the more modern open rims. These are centerline auto drags. Older then most people on this forum. I have had them forever and the only reason I keep them is that they are absolutely true and weight next to nothing but one of these days I will step up to 18 or 20 inch.

295/50/15 with 3.5 back-spacing
Tire size next to each other 295/50/15, 245/60/15, 235/60/15

I wouldn't go any larger than 275s on 8 inch rims. You can, but 275 is already a ton of sidewall, and a ton of bulge. I didn't see it mentioned, but you need to move or remove the Em. brake bracket for 275+
