Default My 78 Corvette weighes 3550 pounds.

With some junk (roadside kit, backpack, tool kit) thrown in the back.

Fiberglass leaf spring, aluminum intake manifold. Time to shave some more weight.

Did you count your weight too..... Let's just say 6 even. :jester
Alum. heads, no t-top, and no spare will get you another 100 or more.

It was 3800 with me in it.

I'm hoping for alum heads. I race it with no tops mostly due to the fact that my helmeted head doesn't fit with the tops on. :D

Also, I have the spare carrier but the tire's in the garage. I just couldn't stand to have the spare visible to the road...

That's interesting... I wonder what the weight differential is. The Sportsmans are iron heads, right?

Hmm... your suspension is lighter, but can't be THAT much lighter, can it? After all, I *am* running the FG spring. Curious!

Was your engine rebuilt? It probably has to do with the cylinder honing... :jester

I would bet mine is in the lower 3200's with the LS1 and an attic full of crap I've taken off of it.

Keep in mind, alot of changes went on from '78-'80. The '80 has aluminum differential, thinner glass, lighter bumper assemblies, fiberglass spring, lighter seats........

<-- 78 PC with FG springs.

Could thinner glass and aluminum differential, lighter bumper assemblies REALLY make up ~500 pounds?

I'm not sure, but there is a guy on the forum that changed the front end on his '79 and says he dropped 150lbs. I can't remember his name, but it's a dark emerald green '79.

Sounds good Steve, what are you planning on shaving off? Haven't got around to weighing mine yet but have been ditching a lot of weight over the years. Always looking for more suggestions. :)

Terr- Alum heads, alum rad, alum water pump...

Probably gonna go with carbon fiber half and drive-shafts too. Wheels and tires should save weight as well, and eventually I may just upgrade brakes and save some poundage there.

Other than that, I suppose when the windshield is replaced, the replacements are supposedly lighter. And when I auto-x, the t-tops are off.

Overall, I'd like to get the car under 3300 pounds without me in it.

I'm going a little more extreme than most of you guys but my '69 is going to weigh under 2600 lbs even if I have to replace every piece of non structural material with aluminum or composite.

I've been toying with the idea of laying up some carbon fiber door skins or maybe a hood.

So is it possible to create a ligher radiator support or is it considered a structural item? Maybe one made of aluminum or aluminum with a carbon fiber overlay for increased strength.

I weighed mine for a move two years ago.

Aluminum head, radiator, headers, elec fans, 80-82 seats, no spare, no spare mount, no top, almost empty tank, no driver = 3050 lbs.

Once loaded, fully gassed etc = 3550 lbs.

My '74 is 3220 with me in it on a certified scale. No options, aluminum heads, water pump, wheels, AC and heat removed, etc.
