Default Looking at Magnaflow mufflers... opinions?

I was looking at buying them from Corvette Central. I don't want the car too loud but want a nice sound with minimal restriction.

I would appreciate any info on these Magnaflows!

Thanks,

Bob

I was looking into magnaflows but found some sound clips online that didn't sound that great. It seemed they had way to much low frequencies (aka drone). But I haven't heard them in person, so this may be wrong.

I went with Borlas and like them. No drone.

I bought a set and installed them with my recent rebuild. I was mainly looking for a reasonably priced stainless muffler and ordered them from a local shop for about $75 each. I really did not look too carefully when I was shopping and when I got them to my suprise I could see right through the muffler. I guess this is what straight through performance means!

I was a bit worried about how loud they would be. To my suprise after installing these mufflers they are actually quieter at idle than the old generic turbo mufflers that I had. It is tough to compare because I also added a full 2 1/2" SS exhaust as well. The old exhaust was a rusty, poorly bent 2" system. Overall I think the mufflers are ok and the price seemed reasonable.

Gotta love the mufflers you can roll a golf ball thru

I think the MagnaFlow SS sound great. Depending on how your motor is setup they can be pretty loud, standing behind mine at a chassis dyno was quite an experience. :D

I have the 3" DynoMax. I can almost put my arm through it! I went with these because they are the only mufflers that show flow ratings.

They aren't as loud as you would think at normal rpms. But when you get on it they really scream! Overall they are much more pleasant to live with than the Flomaster 50s I had before... they had a horrible drone.

Thanks for all the responses so far.

I don't want the car to sound like Flowmaster 40's but not as quiet as stock either. I think these may be the way to go.

Keep the postings coming!

Bob- I have Flowmaster 40 'Delta's' on my 69 that sound less rumbly than the regular 40's. I love my Flowmaster's and they are in the same price range. You might want look at the 50 Delta's. They are even less harsh with the same output though. I wanted the 50's but they were simply to long to fit under my 69 without serious modifications. I have older Dyno Max mufflers with the high temprature stainless steel wrap along the passage THEN filled the chamber with high temprature fiberglass packing. Dyno Max no longer makes their mufflers like they used to! I will buy Magnaflows when I need replacements as I know from my Dirt bike and Road Racer days that high temp fiberglass will tend to migrate out as time goes on diminishing the mufflers performance. Magnaflow! built like Dyno Max used to do it when they made a quality product! The straight through mufflers on My 12 second LT-1 Vette muffle well at steady state throttle positions but can be somewhat loud at full throttle application (have not recieved any tickets in over 7 years of street driving them, I think the ?cops like the sound too!) The car runs 12's through the mufflers, I can't ask for more. The system from the cross member back is an Allen's 2.5" stock LT-1 replacment 304 stainless steel system. I am going to probably use Corvette Central's Magnaflow direct replacement muffler on my current project car (383 shark roadster.)

The Magnaflows with the 2 1/2" pipes on my 72 SB is awesome. Just loud enough to drown out the ricers stereo system at stop lights!!

I have 2 1/2 dynomax mufflers on mine and personally I think it is too quiet. I don't know how the magnaflows compare with them or flowmasters. Anybody care to comment?

Buddies at my college comment that they can hear me in their class when I leave. I think my magnaflow sound pretty mellow with my cross-over pipe and 2 1/2 "s- at least at idle, I honestly liked them a little more when the pipes went straight back. Still, when I step on it they come alive, and are pretty LOUD at WOT on the freeway. Before the cross-over I used to set off car alarms, after the pipe rarely. -Less I hit it. Sometime back someone posted a flow compare. of different mufflers, you may want to try hunting around in the archives.

I also have Magnaflow. They are not too loud at idle, awsome when you open up the secondaries, and quite on a regular highway cruise.
