Wheels - shipping question ?

Wheels - shipping question ?
Okay, I finally won a bid on a set of "thrust" type wheels with tires and need to get a recommendation for shipping. UPS wants to ship only 2 wheels at a time which costs about $77 per box totalling $144 !
The total weight is 215-lbs. - a friend told me to try Yellow Freight - any idea ? What have you guys used before ???

In Jan/Feb '02, I shipped via 'Brown Army' my four N90-wheels Pittsburgh-to-Washington D.C. for chrome-plating.
The girl I was dating at the time worked the customer counter @ UPS, and advised shipping 2-per-box, with mucho padding around the edges & between.
I believe the charge, with adequate insurance, was $30 per box EACH way ($120-total, round-trip), and the wheels arrived in excellent condition.

I would get some other quotes besides UPS. The are high priced. Ibought a hood scoop from a vender and they charged me $24 to ship to me, and I sent it back same box and weight and they charged me $45. I dont get it. I still have not got an answer why from UPS. So I will no longer use them.
 Good Luck

Actually the $144 is not bad. The tires cost to ship.
Is costs $15-20 per wheel (in two packs) without the tires.
If the tires are worth the $60-80, go for it, if not have them taken off.
Tell us more about the Thrust wheels, what brand, size...

I shipped some wheels (no tires) from Ontario to Virginia several months ago by UPS ground and the cost was about $28.00 each. So that seems to be the going rate.
But if you want lower cost and door-to-door delivery is not important then check the rates at a local Greyhound Bus depot.

Try Airborne Express Ground. They will beat anybodys truck ship price. FedEx freight, Roadway, Yellow, etc. all wanted about $350 to ship a bumper into New York City. Airborne did it for $130. I have used them several times and been very pleased.

Next time......I'll get a quote from AIRBORNE.
Anyways <ahem> .....the wheels are Real Mickey Thompson fronts with 205-70-R15's and the rears are 15x7 ET-II's with F70 Scat-Trac tires. ;)
We're talkin' straight outta the 60's and the rims are steel with aluminum centers.
I'll be sure to post plenty of pics of the wheels and (if they fit) some pics with them on my '68 which would have been the widest available in 1968.
Oh, ya want pics now ??? ....okay - check 'em out here ---> http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...K%3AMEBWN%3AIT .....now that the bidding is over.
*RETRO-CITY* here I come ! :yesnod:
