Default BIZARRO PROBLEM

Hey all, I have the most bizarre prob. I just put a new actuator and relay (vac) in my baby. The lights pop up like new!! Only prob now is, they don't light. All my other lights (turn, brake, running, instrument, etc) work great. The light switch is only a couple months old. Like I said, they worked before but not now. I looked around to see if maybe I disconnected something, but no dice. Any ideas? Do the headlights have their fuse? I know they didn't just all burn out at the same time. I checked for power to the connectors at the headlight and there is now power. Maybe a loose ground? If so, where?

Please recheck you post, you state"is now power" do you mean there is no power at the plug? I beleive the lights should work even if your vac is not working. Check the power going through the switch. And yes there should be a fuse.

Yes, the lights should work regardless of vacuum. :yesnod:

Yes, It's supposed to read "there is NO power". Thanks for the catch. I have checked the fuse panel and haven't seen one that says HDLGHT or something to that effect. All the fuses show good.

Do your rear lights and side markers light?

I also repaired the vacuum leaks, and noticed a similar short, but I don't think they are directly related. You should disconnect each plug at the lightbulb and clean those connections with emerycloth and some WD-40. The lights going up and down can shake loose an already bad connection. Seems that all the terminals need a good solid connection.

Yep, all my other lights work fine. Brake lights, turn lights, etc. Very strange.

Does you car have a foot switch for changing between high beams and low beams? Check that one too! I had earlier a problem with that switch and it caused that my headlights didn't work, but all other lights were working perfectly! :smash:

It doesn't use a floor button. It's a 1980 so she has the column mounted lever for switching.

No power at the plug indicates a problem in the wires or switch before the assemblies. Time to get a diagram and back up to the next accesible place (dimmer switch for instance) and recheck for power. For safety reasons, I seem to remember that headlights are not fused.

Check the switch on the column, the lever is attached to a rod that operates a switch on the column. I had one go bad on a Cutlass.
