Default Dumb question...What is an L82??

I just bought a 73 L82 coupe...it has an L82 emblem on the hood, but neither the seller or I have a clue as to what it stands for...I have always been a C4 guy and now I have to learn all over again....thanks

An optional small block motor with additional horsepower. In '73, I think it was 250 hp, rather than the 190 hp L-48 base engine.

:iagree: Basically replaced the LT1 as the hi-po option when GM dropped the solid lifter cam, real power drop from 72 to 73 was not as much as the numbers show because they went from gross (no accessaries) to net (with accessaries). But it did go keep going down hill from there. :( Slap a good set of heads and nice cam on the shortblock for more fun. :steering: Don't forget headers too.

I was recently told, by a guy familiar with early C3s, that the 'early' L-82s like this one 'should' have 4-bolt blocks, steel cranks, and forged pistons; same source not sure if the older 'Pink'-rods were used, tho...

I have a 1973 convertible with the L82 engine option. In 1973 the L82 did not include badges on the hood. Someone must have added them.

you might want to verify that you have the L82 engine... how do you do that? Check the numbers and codes on the engine. Actually, first check your vin. It will tell you what engine came with the car.

Fifth Digit Code: J=350ci 190hp, T=350ci 250hp, Z=454ci 275hp

so the 5th digit of your vin should be the letter "T". :) MJ
