Default One more question about the L-48 rebuild? Please help....

With all this added horsepower, Does anything else have to be reinforced? Meaning will things start to break because the car is original and was set up in 1980 for 190HP?

Waiting for your thoughts, Thanks!!

I personally don't think it will be affected, but the owner of the car has his doubts, and he might be right.

Make sure everything is in good shape, rear end, u- joints etc and you will be fine I haven't broke anything yet 300RWHP and 330RWT

The 406 I am building right now might break things though

I was told that an L-48 and related gear could handle 200 to 225 HP. If your going past 300 horses your going to want to beef up a few things, trans, u joints and shocks. A lot of guys here are pushing 400 + so they know what you need to do. :yesnod:

With my old 350, I was probably making around 275-300hp at the motor and I had no problems with the stock L-48 equiptment, and I usually drove it pretty hard (3,000+rpm launches, etc :yesnod: ). Anywhere in 300's you should be ok, more than that and I would upgrade. This is assuming everything on the car is in decent shape

I should add that my post relates to driving on the street, if you take it to the drag strip all bets are off :D
