I have not put any money into my car in three years
I am also not going to put any money into my car this year. Actually I have changed the oil about six times in the last three years and I did buy a set of spark plugs and an air filter. My Vette is very reliable. I have owned it for over 15 years and have never missed a summer of driving. I rebuilt the engine four years ago but it didn't really need it. How long has anyone else gone without spending money?

Famous last words:
"Wow, you've got a no hitter going..."
"Only one more strike and you'll have bowled a perfect 300 game..."
"Make this putt and you've broken 80..."
Hope you're right :D

how many miles you put on it each year?
I just drove mine down from Boston to Philly and back last week. thats more miles than a lot of guys put on their cars all year.
Once you figure out which parts to use and which to stay away from you can make the C3 fairly reliable.

umm... pass
My car is why I have a job! But it's almost all by choice. I drive over 10k a year (over 1.5 years so far)
Today I put $40 into it, in liquid form, and 50c of air, plus $20 of fees to SCCA :D

I think a big part of the hobby is making the car as best as it can be which includes spending money. It is what makes it fun for me.

Besides money I spent on paint last summer I can't remember the last time I had to spend money on the car. I think it was about 5 years ago when a caliper started leaking. I have had the car 7 years and put about 40,000 miles on it in that time. When I first got it I replaced most of the wear out items like u-joints, bushings. Took apart the rear end and everything was perfect. Even swapped the 396 someone had put in there for a crate motor which should last a long time, put on a Carter carb which is very worry free.
For what has been a total investment of about $8000 so far (only paid $2500 for car) which $1000 of that was for A/C a very reliable and cheap car to own.
However what it needs now though is to have the seats redone. I did them about 6 years ago and they are already bad.

You have to remember that alot of people put money into the vette as an option, not necessarily to "fix" something. Last month I tore out a perfectly fine trouble free differential and spent several hundred dollars to a shop to replace the gears with a better ratio. Crazy isn't it?
Right now I am thinking about the next project - rebuilding the front suspension. Sometimes I am thinking "well, it holds a straight line, it doesn't really need it", other times I just have this craving to take it apart and improve it.
On the other hand - I don't sweat the small stuff. The oil temp guage has never worked, who cares? The hood light doesn't work, the cruise control doesnt work, one of the hood stop springs are missing - who cares? I wouldn't waste my time fixing any of that stuff because it doesn't impact my driving, performance, or safety in the least.

I have put alot of money into the car up until the last three years. All the brakes are new . The whole front suspension is only four years old. Also I became a Father three years ago, that had a large affect on my priorities. The car has never broken down in 15 years and almost every part that I have ever changed was a premptive change. I just don't get it when people say that Vettes are unreliable. Granted I could use some new door panels and seat covers but they are not that bad.
