Man, am I in some trouble - Tall Driver (revisited)
Greetings!!
As some may remember, I put in a post several weeks ago about tall drivers and the C3 Vette. I got a ton of responses. Most of which told me to go and sit in one. Well today, I finally got the chance. I sat in an '82 with crossfire injection. To my total shock and amazement I FIT!!!!!! I had to move the seat all the way back of cource and truly I am going to have to watch the brake and gas since they are kinda close. This one did not have mirrored t-tops and the top didn't touch my head but it was pretty dang close. I have heard mirror'ed t-tops will give me a little more room. Is that true? Also do you think I would experience the same fit in older C3's or would it be different?
Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions.

The deal with glass T-Tops is there is no inside liner to take up any space. So you have room all the way up to the glass. Im 6'1" and fit on the edge of comfortability on long drives in the 82.
You'll have to get out and stretch after a few hours for sure.
Ill I know about earlier C3s is the seats are not nearly as comfortable as the 78PC to 82 seats are, especially if you have power adjust for the drivers seat.

I'm thinking about putting a "Spoon" gas pedal in mine similar to the old hotrods... Give me a little more room in the floor boards for the ol dogs!
Just an idear...

My old 74 seemed to have more room than my 71. Both side and leg room. It must have been the actual seat is all I can figure. Or I could be getting fat too. Just dunno.
I remember reading about some folks switching the brake pad to the smaller kind from a manual setup.

I am 6'4" and I fit in a '69 m/t fine, even wearing cowboy boots.
True- you wear the Vette like a glove, it is not like riding in a luxo-sled, but you get used to these things.

I am 6'3 and have no problem with fitting in my car. I took out the roof liners because they were sagging thus giving me more room.

just opposite. 6'4" 215lbs. barely squeeze into the 68. It has a undersized steering wheel and still hits my thighs. If I am turning left I have to go hand over hand since my leg gets in the way. Rolling up the left window is a chore and requires me to reach under my leg grab the crank (window crank guys) Basically I do not fit the car because I'm too tall but I love her anyway.

I changed the seats in my car from 78 style to 79 or up manual seats. They are much better seats. You didn't say what year your car is. Someone suggested power seats to you. I may be wrong but I think one side of the seat will sit higher unless you modify the floor pan for the motor. Thats why I like the regular seat rails. I have glass tops and T/T steering also. :conehead

From what I have been told and seen, the power seats sit higher *with the seat powered all the way down, of course* than the manuals..have also heard that yes indeed, the floor pans are configured differently for the power seat vs. non powered seat cars. :steering:

6'6" 260lbs. I look like a bear on a tri cycle  :smash: but still wouldn't trade the '71 for any other old hot rod.

Re: Man, am I in some trouble - Tall Driver (Rasch)
I'm a 6-2, 300 pounder. I fit in my manual seat 75 Stingray but shoulder room is a problem. I have a size 15 C shoe.....I'm making a mod on my brake pedal.
I really wanted a 4-speed, but the space restrictions on a vette just allows so much in the foot pedal area. I chose the automatic route.
My center console was shot from the previous owner using it as a exit/entry support. I plan to do the same, but will install a new console and include a little structural reinforcement under the console (engineeing....good stuff).
The things we do for our vettes. I've put myself on a protein diet to get back to battle-trim 245. But I never was average, so you have to make concessions if you like the car. My t-top liners are a problem. I'm hoping to find a pair of glass units at a good price before my car leaves my garage in about 18-months.
