Default OT: Relocating to Massachusetts

So it looks like I'll be living in Boxford, Mass in June. Its just north of Andover. Any forum members live in the area?

Also, what is the deal with registration and vehicle inspections up there? I didn't see any programs for collector cars like there are in NJ. It would be nice to avoid inspection.

they have antique plates here but you can only be on the roads on the weekends or to go to an "automotive type function". This mainly saves you insurance.

Vehicles older than 1984 only need a safety inspection. No worries. And i have slipped through for the past 8 years without a working parking brake.

I live on the south shore so we probably won't bump into each other much if at all.

Welcome...I live in Ipswich. Boxford is a beautiful town....dry...no liquor!

Don't worry to much about the inspection. I go to a garage in Lynn thats owned by an old hot rodder. He lets the "little" things slide. My mechanic turned me on to him.

I'm 30 minutes north of Worcester in Westminster, no problems with inspections up here. If you get a chance come up to the Wachusett Mountain Annual Auto Show at the Ski mountain (typically first weekend in August), I got lucky last year and took first place in class with my 72...Welcome to the area....

As a refugee/escapee from Massachusetts, (Holden), Type in Google:

"Massachusetts Excise Tax"

I truly feel for you...

As turtlevette said, all C3's are old enough to only have to pass a safety test here

Now that drunken Kennedy is going to represent you.
I hope you're liberal.

Connecticut is a dump too. People here are just as miserable as Mass.

you got to consider that he's coming from Jersey.

Anywhere would be an upgrade. Hell would be an upgrade.

Excise Tax? I thumb my nose at that. You people don't know what tax is until you lived in NJ. You guys are Tax Rookies.

I grew up in Ashby (just north and east of Westminster). Now I'm in Michigan where we have absolutely no inspections of any kind. It's much nicer than the stuff I used to have to deal with. Like someone above said... find a garage that can help you out and you're all set.

I grew up in Andover. That whole area is really nice.
I escaped Taxachusetts for NH in 1985. I like it much better up here, it's a LOT more laid back.

Welcome to New England
I live between Boston and Worcester now, but grew up in VT.
Your location will be perfect if you like to race your vette. New England Dragway is in Southern NH, and the SCCA runs a lot of autocross events at the old FT Devins Army Base. You'll be living right between these. Hope to see you at the track.

Welcome to the land of Mbutts......

Though you won't see me on the raod anytime soon at least not for another year or so, I'm just about ankle deep in a body off resto on my 79 which I have the front bumper and assembly off and attacked part of the rear before this damn snow hit us again. Looks like I'l be selling all the body parts as I think it would be better to start clean rather than repair all the necessary stuff. But I am def hanging around here and will be knee deep in parts very soon. anyways welcome to the neighborhood

If you find a good mechanic, you should be fine. I wouldn't worry too much about the Mass taxes, it is their driving you have to be careful of!

You should continue north to tax free NH, NH is where people drive with courtesy or come to Michigan. Like Scooter said, no inspections. Just drive you car until it catches fire and leave it on the side of the interstate.

Just had a buddy (who I grew up with in NH) move from NJ to Conn because he couldn't stand NJ ny longer.

If you are looking for a bunch or Vetteheads to check out, I am president of Bay State Corvette Club, http://www.baystatecorvetteclub.com , we meet in Hopedale, MA once a month. If you like to drive, race, drink beer, talk cars, hang out, blow stuff up,you may want to check us out. If you think Corvette ownership starts and ends at car shows, you may want to pass.:D:D:D:D

turtlevette - I notice that you don't give any clue as to where you reside - too ashamed? People who bad mouth Jersey have not spent much time there.
