how do you tell an original brochure from a repro??
I just got a 68 dealer brochure (ebay). It looks nice, has some age to it but is in great condition. I was wondering how to tell the difference between an original and a repro. I know the repros are very good quality. I paid repro price for this, but it was advertised as original. I just don't know what the little telltale details are to distinguish one from the other. :) MJ

The original was probably a crappier printing. :jester
No really, it's an offset printing technique that's now out of date.
Look for a shift in color between the yellows, blues, & reds (magenta).
Other than that, there might me some fine print like a GM logo at the bottom. :chevy

Destructive testing is the only way to tell for sure.
I would obtain access to a KNOWN original brochure. Compare the quality of fine detail (5-10X magnifier) in the known original to the brochure in question. Fine detail printing will never be reproduced in the same quality as the original.
The any red pigment in an original brochure should be faded by now.

I have two dealer brochures for my year, one original, one repo. On the back cover the repo's GM logo is in black not blue & in very tiny print on the bottom left is the statement "Portions of materials contained herein have been reprinted with the permission of General Motors Corp Service Technology Group". Other than that unless you had both side by side it's hard to tell. The original's pics are sharper and clearer and it has January, 1971 printed back cover lower left. :chevy
