Another Ebay what am I missing? $500 radiator cap!!??
I saw the winning bid on this NOS radiator cap top $500 and my only response is WTF?? If I had a 99 point car and needed this cap to put it at 100, I still think I'd have trouble forking over $50 for this cap, let alone $500!!!

A thing to remember on Ebay is that there are generally at least 2 people on earth willing to pay within a few dollars of the final bid.

Guys.....Hey GUYS !!!....listen (or read)
You must checkout the winning bidders list of 'won' items !
He's a 'fat' whale....I'm talkin' $$$ just flowin' out that dude's rearend.
$10k for a '66 Triumph....$612 for a shifter ......$150+ for some fuel bowl filter on a '56-'57 vette..........guess he was a CEO for Enron or something.
IN fact, what if the 'bidder' is trying to launder money by buying crap on eBay that later he can resale ?!? ......I'm tellin' ya - somethin' ain't right. :skep:

I don't know exactly why it's worth that, but it must be worth that. One of the other bidders, Novadoug66, is someone I've done business with before on ebay (I got a hell of a deal on an original fan cluctch from him), and he's a professional parts guy. It must have something to do with the rivet shape being a particular shape for 66 & 67. I know the rivet was slightly different some years (dimpled or not dimplet, copper or some other metal). Just for comparison, I bought an NOM R-15 radiator cap on ebay that is in every way that I can see identical to that one for about $450 less.

.
Interesting......
I looked at the other radiator cap he bought for $500 and noticed that it was stamped with the words "stainless". To the best of my knowledge, I don't think the originals were made of stainless steel (at least not according to my '68-'69 NCRS judging guide). My guess is that this is a service replacement and certainly won't gain him any points in judging if that is what he intends to do. I'd bet his previous "stainless" cap isn't worth $30.
There's something more here than meets the eye....
I've always thought that the used/collector car market would be a good arena in which to launder dirty money. The appraised value on these cars, and especially the parts, is very hard to verify
