Default Homemade cross shafts to correct camber

To raise the roll center and to get a more favorable camber curve while cornering I made a set of extended spindles which I installed this winter. It causes the upper A arms to point down on the inside more then stock. What this does is make the A arms shorter because of the angle causing the upper ball joint to be pulled in causing excess negative camber. I had 1 degree negative camber without shims.
I didn't want this much camber so I could either move the ball joint in the A arm but my A arms were freshely powder coated for the second time so I didn't want to mess them up.
I decide to make my own offset cross shafts. I started with 1 x 1 inch by 12 3/4 long cold rolled steel, turned each end round for the bushing by offsetting the 1 x1 in a 4 jaw chuck and turning the rounds to .675 diameter, slight larger then stock for a better bushing fit, 1.5 inches long with a 3/8th x 24 threaded hole in the center 1.2 inches deep so where the round connects to the main body it is full cross section.
I then milled the mount surface back 1/4 inch to further offset the bushing mounts.
I then drilled the mounting holes 1/4 inch further forward to move the cross shafts back an added distance to acheive 5 degrees positive caster without shims.
I am making 3 different offset cross shafts so I can change setting without alot of shims.
I added a few extra holes to bring the weight down to match the stock units and for looks

Thanks guys for the compliments but my life is pretty boring. I spend too much time alone with my horse and another big chunk of time in my shop thinking of things to do. My car is just an outlet for boredom.
What keeps me from turning out parts for others is horse SHOEING. It pays $100 per hour cash. A horse with just basic pull the shoes off, cut foot , replace shoes pays $100 flat rate and I can do it in 45 minutes, I love the work, the people are nice/usually woman, no taxes and I love the horses. How can turning out parts alone in my shop compete with that and who would pay that kind of money for the parts????
Forgot that $100 is without opitions. Winter studs/pads/new shoes really drives the bill up and it is pure profit.
IN my next life I want to shoe full time. Also think of workout I get. The first few years you don't sleep do to achs and pains. I have reached the point where I have either developed the muscles for the job or my nerver cells have died because I can shoe a 1500 pound horse and not even notice the workout. Well my hands sure stink after that but a little soap, well alot of soap and hand cream helps.
Counting the money also takes the smell away.
I only do it evenings, I rest on my day job

you are a mystery.. who would want to trade crafting beautiful parts for nailing pieces of metal to the toe nail of a horse and get covered in poopie whilst doing it :lolg: Not me :) different strokes for different folks. :) Glad you are having fun doing it tho. And it does pay good, it does here too.I know of 1 guy that is a black smith/horse shoe-er (sp?) and he has some green to spend for sure.

A full time black smith if he is lazy makes about $90,000 , an ambitious one make $200,000 and up.
I am part time but the last time I dipped in my horse shoeing pot I pulled $5,000 out without emptying the pot and I do that regularly. It is my money to spend on vet parts are anything else. The wife doesn't care just so long as I also use it for her birthday and christmas presents and not the visa card.
