Is it OK to ask "What is it Worth?"
I know of a 1970, 454, 4 spd, ragtop (2 tops actually) 27,000 mile Corvette. Apparently it is still cherry and owned by the original owner. He tells me there were only 12 made? Does that sound right?
Anyway, he does not have it appraised and I told him to get it appraised because it is worth more than he thinks it is, and I further told him he better get proper insurance on it. It is in storage, but fires happen...... I've read about too many rare Mopars going up in flames to know this nice vette is not properly insured.
Anyway, if you folks could venture a guess I'd appreciate it.

in 1970 there were 6648 verts made with 4383 of them with M21 close ratio boxes and 25 made with M22 heavy dutie boxes, if he has a genuine M22 box good for him, to  for school, all other verts that year were autos.
Your a top dude for suggesting insurance regardless if hes using it

Hmmmm, I thought the M20 and 21 was still used much later. I think the M20 is whats in my 71, numbers match on the tranny.
MrMopar, welcome to the forum. IMO, an all original 70 vert with 454 and 4spd, low miles, should bring $25k or better.
There are alot of unanswered questions though, what options does it have? Which HP 454 package is it.....?

A nice trick by Corvette owners to make their cars sound more valuable is thus:
It's a 79 L-48 with M20 transmission, trailor package, courtesy lights, no A/C, standard stereo, brown/brown. Only 12 (like this) exist!
Regardless, it's a 454 with a 4-spd. It has to be worth something.

M20's in 1970-72 vettes original ?
Ok, something is fishy.......I can't find the RPO M20 tranny as an option under 1970, 1971, or 1972.
Not that I don't believe you guys......but the books don't agree :nono:
Also, 1972 does NOT show a listing for the M22 option. :chevy

The reason that the M-22 is not listed as an option is because it was bundled in the ZR-1 RPO.

Re: Is it OK to ask "What is it Worth?" (sb69coupe)
The M-20 is not listed as an option because it was NOT an option, it was standard equipment in '70. The standard drivetrain in 1970 was the 300hp motor with the M-20 4 speed. The reason that it was listed as an option in 68 and 69 is that the standard equipment transmission was a 3 speed manual.

If you wanted air on a RPO LS5 with a 4 speed, the M20 with 3.08 rear was only combination available. M21 box was probably most common 4 speed behind the LS5. Thats what mine has.
