Default split in new door panel...should they stand behind it?

a few months ago i bought a complete interior kit from one of the vendors...
carpet, door panels, complete rear compartment boxes and covers, several cans of dye, all new leather seat cushions with foam installed etc...
quite an expensive order...
yesterday i noticed a split at the top of one panel on the drivers side...
it looks like the trim cut it when it was pinched on...
i have emailed the vendor with a photo and asked what they could and would do about it...
we will see...i will let you know how they handle it...
what would you expect them to do about it?
what should i expect them to do about it?
thanx yall!

I would hope that they make it correct for you. After spending the money, they should make if correct.

bought a set for my old 77 and from CC and developed a crack at the top rear end. Sent pics to CC. They mailed me a new one and I got my money back after I sent the cracked one back. I was impressed at the speed of the return so Yes return it.

80/20 loop insert instead of the furry crap....

should i be expected to pay the extra again if they replace the panel but want me to pay the $60???
i wouldnt think so since it isnt my fault...

Charged Cali for a 2nd panel and when the defective one was sent back, refunded the cost of the 2nd panel.

Steve's right. Basically they could not give me one before they personally saw the defect nor did they want me to run around without a door panel so I purchased another one it came in one week. I repackaged the bad one and returned it in the same box and they refunded me the cost. Not a bad deal.

thanx for clearing that up for me Cali! :jester

well Paul...i didnt ask because i dont know what I would do...
theres no question there...
however...i HAVE had problems with this vendor before so i wanted your guys opinions here, "in writing" incase they gave me a hard time...

yesterday i recieved a reply from them that said...
"Your panel picture is being looked at by our customer service tech and
the
manufacturer of the panel. We will follow up with an email tomorrow
with
instructions on how this problem can be resolved."
so we will see tonight when i get home from work...
and of course i will post their reply here...

thanx guys! stay tuned for the results!

i have been getting many im's from people wanting to know who the vendor is...
i do not think it would be fare at this juncture to expose them...
i plan on doing that AFTER they tell me what they will do about it...

then i think it will be fare to do so...

Guess I will play :reddevil advocate a little, how does the vendor know you just didn't grab it real firm in that area while closing the door and tore it yourself? I doubt that is what happened but since it has been a few months I could see them refusing, now if you pulled the panel out the box and saw that then by all means they should replace it but after a few months I don't see how you could be :mad with them if they refuse.

I do hope you get a replacement since I believe it to be no fault of your own.

ok...i recieved a reply...
im not sure if its good or not so i havent replied because i would like yalls opinion 1st...so here it is...

"We have talked to Corvette America the manufacturer of the door panel. Return the door panel to the Pa address listed below. We will be happy to repair, or replace the panel after an inspection to determine the cause of the cut in the panel. If the panel is found to be defective, the problem will be corrected.

Since this door panel is a custom made. Corvette America the manufacturer, insist that they have the old panel back before they can manufacturer another panel."

ok...thats fine...
but...
im wondering how long i would be without a panel...
i guess being without a panel for a while is better than letting this thing grow and later on saying to myslf "i wish i woulda...i shoulda"
on the other hand, im kinda insulted that i am not trusted to return this panel or that they think that i would have a reason to do this myself...

i think that what happened is quite obvious judging from where this tear is...
im i alone in that thinking that the metal trim piece might have been sqeezed on too hard and tore it? it was suggested that possibly grabing it there would/could do this but i dont think so...who grabs their door in that location and even if you did occationaly, how could you tear it there? that stuff is pretty dam tough...

one more note...as far as trusting me...
some of you may remember the ordeal that i had with my new seats...
they were hard as rocks...turns out they had not been "crushed"...
they sent me new ones and when they arrived, i changed them over and reboxed the returns and sent them right out...next day...

whata yall think???

I SAY :bs :bs :bs

They should offer you the same deal I had. C.C. bought my door panel from C.A. and they honored me and I had a door panel during the entire process.

i agree ...really...
i am just curious if that is the overwelming consensus here...
i mean...i want to be fair as badly as i want them to be fair...
so i just want to make sure that i am not being unreasonable...

thanx for your opinion Cali...

PS...i included a link to this post in my mail to them so hopefully they will check in and read along and both them and i will realize what the right thing to do is...
i want to be fair about this but i want them to fair with me too...

I can see their point in wanting the panel back, but I would insist that driving around without a panel while they investigate the tear they send you a replacement panel and I would remind them you paid full amount for an entire interior and this is the only bad incident. Don't pay for another panel in advance, if you do do so with a credit card so if they pull something on you you can dispute it with the credit card company.

I would say as you bought a complete interior and spent quite a few $$$, and assuming you have previously spent more $$$ with the vendor, then they should give you the benifit of the doubt and ship you another and then have you return the defective one.

If they give you a hard time and want you to go without a panel while they do their thing, you should remind them of the $$$ you have spent that won't be coming their way again, along with the "hit" they will take from a bunch of angry "friends" here on the forum. No matter how good or bad a vendor is, nothing motivates them more than money, or the prospect of losing it. :yesnod:

Good Luck. I hope they do right by you.
