Did 1982 Corvettes have Clear coats
I have been looking for a 1982 Collectors Edition Corvette and think I may have found one. It is so clean and original that the paint and the aluminum turbine wheels look like they are Clear Coated. Does anyone know for sure was GM clearcoating aluminum wheels and body paint in 1982 or on the 1982 Collectors Edition. Thanks Bill

All cars from Bowling Green are clear coated; thus certain 81s and up have clear coated bodies.
I'm fairly certain all Corvette aluminum wheels were clearcoated at one point as well.

Am under the impression that ALL two-tone D84-cars were done @ Bowling Green, and thus, clear-coated, too...

The St. Louis cars were done with acrylic lacquer. With the move to Bowling Green a switch to acrylic enamel base coat/clear coat was made.

I don't think anyone knows for sure when it comes to the aluminum optional wheels from '76 - '82. I personally do not think they did come clearcoated from the factory. As far as the '82 CE aluminum turbine wheels go, I imagine they would not have been clearcoated either, but since they came from Bowling Green, perhaps they did. Now I'm curious.

My '82 (at least) came with clear-coated N90-wheels from Bowling Green.

In '00, when I bought it, it had just 11,137 miles on the clock, yet the clear-coat had shrunk, peeled, and turned a nasty shade of Yellowish-Gray.
This was solved when I had them stripped, and chrome-plated in '02 for just $135/per wheel.

My 82 was bought with 87K on her and did not have any clear coat on the rims. They were dull though but had no corrosion so they cleaned up very easily with mothers aluminum mag polish.
I think they would look very sweet if chromed! :D
