I bought some VHT paint from them. Their service was fast and they seem to have really good prices on a lot of things.

The VHT paint worked great.

I didn't buy their kit, but I bought all the chems and anodes to do the "Copy Cad" yellow cadmium plating for vacuum canisters and vacuum relay on my 69'.
I am completely set up now with the addition of the heater, air pump and power supply and I am still plating practice pieces first.
So far it is great with pieces turning out nicely.
Not meant to be an advertisement, just a satisfied customer so far.

If the gold cadmium look is what you are after, this is it. It is far superior to any paint. The copy cad kit does not come with the yellow dichromate. You will need to buy this separately. This is the final dip that leaves the yellow/gold iridescent finish on the zinc plated part.

Keep in mind that you can achieve different results just in the way the part is prepared for the plating. Caswells has a plating manual that I recommend as well. It explains about bead blasting vs buffing and whether to add brightener or not depending on the look you are after. Looks can range from very bright almost stainless-steel-like to a duller finish. you will have to buff the part after plating to get a brighter shine.

The power supply will be the most important part of your setup. To do an entire carb you will need 25 milliamps/square inch of part to be plated. I'm guessing a carb has at least 100 square inches of surface area. This will require a min. of 2.5 amps at 1.5 volts. The power supply with the kit will not plate this much surface area. It will do about 15 sq. in. Power supply's can be very expensive. My 3 gallon setup, without the power supply, cost me about $250. A power supply can cost anywhere from $50(ebay if your lucky) to $300.
Hope this helps a little.

Rick

There is a guy in Mass. that has a few 75 Amp and 150 Amp power supply's that I and several of my plating forum members have recently purchased from. He was doing ebay until we starting dealing with him directly. The 150 Amp unit I bought was $150 + shipping. The 75 Amp units may be a little cheaper. 75 amps will plate 3,000 square inches which is good if you move up to nickle or copper plating. It will plate 300 square inches of nickle or copper. The guy is Tom Siudak and you can reach him at tsiudak@comcast.net.

I started with the Caswell manual first and joined the yahoo electroplating group. A great bunch of guys just like the forum here. Most people get into plating to do car parts.

Let me know how it goes and if I can help out.

Rick
