did you tell your TH400 you upped the power?
my 72 was 200hp stock. now it is ~385.
Now that it makes 200hp near 1/2 throttle, i moved the WOT downshift switch to 1/2 throtte.

Interesting! Think I'll grab some :lurk: and sit back -- see what others have to say about doing this...

Matt, I have the same tranny apart now to rebuild it. In stock form I was told it handle 400hp without a problem. One of the mods I going to make is to install an early direct clutch hub and 34 element sprag. The auto tranny racers sadi this is the weak point in a TH400.
I would think if your trannyis is in decent shape you'll be ok.

Actually that 400 number was GM's torque designation not the HP ... the Turbo 350 was rated at 350 foot pounds of torque and the Turbo 400 was ... ahh you know the rest!

I would belive that for a TH200, but what happened to the 700R4? It won't take 700 ft-lbs in anywhere close to stock form will it? Must have changed this nomenclature in the 80s.
