Prices rising? What am I missing on this Ebay item?
This would appear to be a #4 condition 427/390 sidepipe vert. The lastest Vette magazine pegs this in the low 20's. She's already over 30k.

Maybe a dealer would pay a kid to clean it and ask $60k?

guess the bidders didn't notice the fender lips, they have been reworked to a sharp profile to clear larger tires.

 Hell, I'm going to have to sell my car now. Mine is a pretty close to being that exact car, except it's nicer, cleaner, more original, has lower milage, fender louvers, and has air. All I'm missing is those rusty-looking sidepipes and the hard top (though my convertible cover frame isn't as nicely rusty and bashed up as the one they show lying on the ground--is that worth something?). So my car ought to be good for at least $35K on ebay, donchathink? That'd only be about double what I paid for it two years ago. :D
[EDIT] Just went and looked again--the damn thing's NOM!! It has a CE block, though the guy conventiently doesn't point out what that means.

That would be my guess that his buddies are running up the price which is against ebay policy as if that mattered to ebay or anyone else for that matter :iagree:

I think CE = Chevrolet Engine. Shocker, a Corvette with a Chevrolet Engine.
*CE258009
According to the Black Book, there was no such block number in 1969.

Re: Prices rising? What am I missing on this Ebay item? (pacabada)
I quote:
"The C stands for Chevrolet, E stands for Engine (T would be Transmission), and the first number is the year. then there is a serial number for the engine, based on the xxxth engine that year. The serial is 20,000 to 49,999 for Flint and 50,000 to 79,999 for Tonowanda. For example, CE850327 is a Chevrolet engine from Tonowanda for 1968 and was the 327th produced, not that it was a 327."
This too:
"CE is often defined as Chevrolet Engine. The CE block was a service replacement engine that may have been a warranty item due to price. The engine pad carries a CE code instead of the traditional codes on production engines. The first number indicates the year and the next five digits are a sequential numbering for the unit that year. 20,000 to 49,999 is for Flint-built V8s. 50,000 to 79,999 is for Tonowanda-built V8s."

High bidder either knows something we don't (he seems to know corvettes) or he might have made a mistake entering his bid. I agree it appears to be way too high..... even for an original sidepipe bigblock 69 2 top vert.... :) MJ

Very similar, except the E-Bay car is a vert & the Car Trader Online vehicle is a t-top. Big $$$ difference.

$9800 * 1.50 (50% for vert) = $14700 :D
That's 1/2 the price of what it's going for. ;)
