Default ARP main studs, finger tight, no silicone sealer

Just gettng around to putting the crank in my 406, I have ARP main studs and ARP says to put them in finger tight and it goes on to say for permanent installation use Locktite on the threads.

Does anyone have any experience with main studs and did yo put anything on the threads that go into the block ?

Motorhead:
I don't remeber if you have an aftermarket block or a stock block. On some 400 stock blocks I have seen the main bolts go through into the coolant jacket. If this is the case, then you need a light coat of sealer. Otherwise a light coat of oil and finger tight.

Thanks guys and Pete it's a stock block, think maybe I put a light coat of Permatex black on them can't hurt. I eventually had to go with -1 bearings because my crank was under tolerance from the factory. I have close to 0.003" on all mains now for oil clearance :D

I really like the rims, so does this guy, pretty cool when you see a Top Alcohol dragster with the same rims.

The best thing to buy is the stud installer socket set.

Finger tight refers to threaded holes that have been chased and with a little lube the studs go right in.

I used the ARP assembly lube. Then with the socket I ran them all down tight. then backed them off to set the installed height all the same.

This motor I did the studs with white grease. I had the crank in and out 15 - 20 times to do the block grinding.

Black nitrieded 3.75 stroker for 383 ci
