Just who said that side pipes were loud?
 OK, Ive been reading about how loud the side pipes are . I finally hooked up mine to the stock Exhaust manifolds in my stock 75 L-48 .(I have the Hooker sidepipes),(Im running the glass pack inserts), and WoW,,,, this is the way the car should have sounded from the very start....... its not to loud, and I dont have to raise the volume on the radio when I come to a stop light....Yea I know the pipes exit near my ears,But Im still smiling about this new Deeep rumble that Ive got now. From the posts that Ive been reading I was so afraid that Id sound like a Harley Davidson going down the road 2 blocks over
but seriously, Im just such a happy camper now . if only I knew how to post pics I would.
by the way do these Glass pack inserts detiorate after time?save the :seeya and keep on :steering:

I say they are too loud. Put a good motor with them and talking on the telephone after a good run becomes a problem.
I value my hearing and damaged it with side pipes along with other things.

There are lots of things that don't work as well as they used too, especially with us old timers. Hearing aids and Viagra are a couple of things that will compensate for these deficienties
Older Than Dirt, The hearing aid I could use, the viagra I would like to try

Get rid of those back-pressure inducing, non-flowing glasspacks and then come back and tell us if it's still not loud. Those things stink!

I run mine without mufflers.. That's why they are loud.. 150+ db    :D
Mufflers reduce the noise.. but significantly reduce horsepower...

I checked my side exhaust with a meter - 110db at 3000 - I am sure they are pretty well 'blown out' but it is extremely loud. You ought to hear it when you cram it down a gear at a 35mph roll. The other thing you hear is gas sucking in the carb - .....I am getting too excited !!!!!
