Engine runs after I turn it off!
When I turn the ignition off the engine runs for a few seconds after that. I think it is even running backwards!! It sounds horrible when it does, and is VERY embarrassing!
Any I deas of what could cause this? It also idles too fast. I think the carb has enough miles on it now that it need a good fine tuning.
Thanks,
~Jay

yeah... I think it may be idleing a little rich. The only octane available is 91. The engine builder designed it to run well with that. He said that after about 1500 miles he would fine tune the carb. I guess that makes sense, becaus the problem just started.

I see you have a manual. If you cannot trace down the problem just shut the car off in gear. Let out the clutch a little to drop the rpms to 600 or so then kill it. I had to do that with my 71 for a while.

I feel your pain.
*Something* with my spark advance settings was giving me SERIOUS grief with dieseling. Mine would sometimes go on for 15 seconds or so. :mad
You want to get looks at a gas station because you car looks and sounds cool, not because it's making weird noises with smoke coming out from under the hood.

I agree with the loose vacuum line. I had backfire through carb and it popped of a cap on vacuum tube out passenger side of Qjet. I didnt know so was driving around with open vacuum and car would run-on when hot and turning it off.

Dieseling, due to high combustion temps. Causes could be:
1) Too low octane
2) Too much spark advance (check distributor for initial, total, advance and see if vacuum advance is working correctly)
3) Carbon buildup in cylinders
4) Lean condition, vacuum leak, carb, fuel pump, or fuel filter problem
5) High idle speed
