1973 Corvette Letters
Hello to all, just signed on. I just purchased a 73 and need to know the best way to drill out the holes that were filled in for the CORVETTE letters on the back above the license plate. Three hole are showing. Is there a template to use or should I try to find them from up inside and drill them out from the outside in?
Thanks for all responses! :D

Re: 1973 Corvette Letters (wogs73)
I have a template that another member made for me,,worked great and during the project I found that you could see where the holes were from behind. Get a flashlight and scrap off any dirt or gunk between the tail lights and you should see the indentions...be very careful, as I poked a small sharp point in each from behind and then drilled them from the rear of the car.
Send me your address and I will gladly send you the template..

To help stop chipping the paint I would use the Black and Decker Bullit tip drills. They have a small tip and cut the outside edge first.

but printing to scale would be a challenge. The template I made for Roger is
a pencil rubbing from my '70 rear. It includes the edge of the tailight opennings
for proper alignment. Trying to locate the original holes from the rear would
be best. I'd go from the inside with the smallest bit I have - then open them
from the outside. There are two different drill sizes, which I indicated on the
template. I think They may be in the AIM, too.
Good luck !! :seeya

If you have access to the rear inside you will find small indentations where the letter tabs go through the rear. I would use a sharp point (I use a small ice pick) to mark the area then use a very small drill to drill a pilot hole. On the outside I would put tape over the area to be drilled, or you can use jewelers files to enlarge the holes. The tape helps with not chipping the paint or scratching......Here's my 73 http://members.cardomain.com/73jst4fun good luck :seeya
