As you all know i'm set on a 69-72 vert however if this price does not go astronomical within 12 hours of close-out I'd consider it. Always appreciated he 80-82 lines.

Re: Anyone want to check this out for me? (Cali,77,L-82)
I don't know. It's got a lot of miles, the 81 had the computerized Q-Jet which looks to have been replaced (how well was that done??). By the number of cooling system components replaced it had major cooling problems....you know what that can do.....the air pump is there but looks to be disconnected.
IMHO I would shy away from 81's in general because of the carb setup and buying from a dealer has it's own set of issues. With you liking everything to be perfect (read money pit) I would pass on this long distance buy.

Are you still into oringinal condition or have you gone back to "souping them up" . If the later I would jump all over that car at that price, keep an eye on it.

It looks to be a southern car so you shouldnt have to worry about rust much.
If Vette projects give you some serenity and lowers your blood pressure while at the same time excites you (like it does for me), then I'd jump on it.
Looks like a good starting point.

Well lets put it this way. If it goes under 10K it's a steal however I do not want major issues with an emission complient vechicle when for 6-10k more I can get a non-emission 68-72.

Dave,
Go past this in the southwest section. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zeroforum?id=44
Theres lots of people posting in there from San Antonio.
Not my first choice for your next vette, but if your like me, once you get something in your head, it's hard to get out.

Re: Anyone want to check this out for me? (Cali,77,L-82)
just a couple observations about this car since i'm a little familiar with the '81s. 1) it has the wrong speedometer in it so there is no way to be certain what the actual mileage is. 2) the center gauge cluster is wrong for an automatic car, there should be a clock where that oil temp guage is. so was that some kind of mod and how well was it done? 3) the cold air induction is completely gone so have a good time finding replacement parts for it. 4) a car that appears to be somewhat modded would not have the factory headers on it if it was done by anyone who knew what the hell they were doing with an '81. 5) they say it's a 4-speed auto. '81s didn't have a 4-speed auto. was it changed with a 700r4 or is it really a 3-speed?
oh yeah, notice the factory recommended electrical tape repair on the e-brake handle?
if it's cheap i suppose, but it would have to be under $8k for me. more like $6-7k
two more things i noticed: wrong tail lights. where's the back-up lights? and in the description it says a motor mount needs to be replaced. wonder how they found that?! ;)

I just saw your e-mail regarding this Vette. I am in San Antonio and would love to check it out for you but I am leaving for Chicago Tuesday and time is of the essence. Maybe Page62 can help you out, he is another local Vette guy here in the SA area that owns a '79. Wish I would have seen your post earlier. If Page62 is not available try Jeff 6T9, he is another fellow Vette guy in the area. Best of luck!

I don't know much about the later C3s, but I'd be glad to check it out for you. It's near my office.
Page and I drove past that lot last week, and at that time they had 11k on the windshield. I'd imagine you could get it way below that.

Re: Anyone want to check this out for me? (Cali,77,L-82)
I'm amazed at the things forum members picked up just by looking at the photos! Of course, no one mentioned the woodgrain dash panels...
Everything that has been mentioned is correct. The car has been desmogged by replacing the E4ME carb with an Edelbrock QJet, and the distributor is now an Accel unit. Other than that, all the smog stuff has been left intact...just disabled. The engine and drivetrain appear stock: L81 motor and TH350C tranny. Stock rear gear, too (2.81?).
The exhaust is a stock 2-1-2 system with a cat still in place. (The owner was there...he's the dealer's finance manager. He swore it was a true dual system...) He also says the radiator has been replaced (which appeared to be true) and that it has no cooling issues. However, the valve seals need to be replaced (don't they all?).
The paint looks good, but there are minor crazing issues on the front fender and around the door lock. Seat covers have been replaced (all vinyl). The car has power seats and door locks...but the locks are a bit sticky. New weatherstripping, too. Dash is cracked and has been covered with carpeted pad.
It drives nicely. No tracking issues, no steering play. Very few rattles or squeaks. Performance is good, not quite as torquey as my L82. But still a pretty quick car.
A/C works, but the compressor rumbles at idle.
Bottom line: Not perfect, but far from junk. I've driven MUCH worse. For the right price (which I won't go into), this would make a nice "driver" without being a money pit.

No one has bid on it for 2 days, still at $5500, if it stays that way wait till the last minute and put your highest bid on it, very important to figure out what you are willing to pay in case the other guy has covered his bid with a higher one you don't have any time to rebid. ( Hey worked for my Vic Jr. heads)
