I'm trying to install a stock AC DELCO AM/FM cass radio in my vette, but I'm having trouble figuring out what wire goes to the power antenna. The radio in the car isn't the stock unit so I'm not sure of the color or the setup.

It should be a gray wire.

Perhaps this will help. It is for a 78 but the 79 is about the same.

The gray wire is for the light inside.

the yellow wire (10a fuse)from the radio tells the relay an on or off condition - the orange wire(30a from harness) is 12v constant and is used to power the antenna - the anntenna was also a dealer installed option - the kit is available from gm - its complete with wiring harness and relay -about $125.00 - i suppose you could build one with a dpdt switch - it wouldnt be automatic but would stay down when you use the cassette - dave

is it a more modern radio that does not use the stock harness? if so, most radios have a blue lead on the back that's the electrical antenna power (driven off the radio isntead of using a relay)

The stock setup uses a relay mounted under the rer storage compartment boxes.

When I bought the car the original owner said he had two options installed after he ordered it, Bronze glass T-tops and a different radio and power antenna. So I'm not sure if the same wiring still exists back benind the guage cluster.
