Jacking Off ... Confusion?
Hey all:
Did I get your attention?
Anyways I am a bit confused as to the jack placement on the vette. I was looking at the diagram provided by corvettefaq.com and it just seems like its either missing some spots or just not quite right. I would think that you can jack the car up infront by the center plate, Correct? Also I am not quite sure how to get the rear end up (you know thats how I like it), Differential?
Clue me in or let me come jack your car up and see what happens... hehe ... :jester

I don't think it's recomended to jack the front of the car up by the cross member that dips under the engine, but a lot of people do it. I do it, but I put some wood boards between the jack and the member so it doesn't get bent in, which has happened to some people. Haven't had a problem using the wood to spread out the load. And the back end I jack up under the diff, also using boards just in case. I've heard that jacking the car up on the side right under the tranny cross member can lead to t-tops getting cracked, so be careful there.

Re: Jacking Off ... Confusion? (Blankman)
Whenever I jack it up, I use 2 jacks, one on each side.
For the rear I put them right in front of the rear tires and slowly jack each side alternately until I get it to the level I want. This way it minimizes the body twist and possible problems that can cause -cracked fiberglass or t-tops.
For the front it is just behind the front tires. I use jack stands right next to the jacks once its up.
Your never to use the rear pumpkin and I dont beleive the front crossmember under the engine is a good idea either.

I second Brent's recommendation with one further, When jacking up the front of the car, I typically jack the car on the frame just forward of where the fender meets the door. Once the car is at the proper height, I place jack stands on the front points of the frame rails where they end near the front sway bar. This provides a secure resting point and allows me to work along the side of the car without fear of disturbing the jack stands (I always am working on the engine/trans just behind the front tires).

Re: Jacking Off ... Confusion? (TedH)
I use TedH's points for jacking, just like the manual says...
Everything I've ever read says NEVER jack the rear up by the differential. You will pay for it a while down the road when the invisibly distorted case and seals leak like a sieve (causing further problems). :yesnod:

Jacking Off ... Confusion?
Nope. Been without a girlfriend long enough it's pretty straightforward.
Oh, getting the car off the ground? Yeah, these guys have that covered.

Yes, I have to agree with Brent and Ted here.
The car is best jacked from side to side, instead of back or front.
I don't know how you would get a jack under the front and be able to raise the handle anyway.
The car is very stable on jackstands as described above- right behind the front wheels and right ahead of the rear wheels. I then put the jack under the front crossmember and just put a little pressure on the jack for safety reasons.
