Re: Which Hood Do You Like Best? (Chuck Harmon)
Does not appear to be much difference in the L88 and the LT1/BB.
Help me out because I am bringing it home tomorrow.

The L88 and the big block hoods look pretty much the same on the front end. But the back end, near the windshield, is where the big difference is. The big block hood drops off in the rear, to pretty much stock height. The L88 is raised, probably 3 or 4 inches in the rear. Gives you more clearance under the hood, and more options for intakes and air cleaners, I believe.
I have the L88 and love it. Definitely gives the car a beefier look. The stinger is a nice looking hood, but I personally like the L88 best.

Ok I'll be the first to say it: I like the Stinger, it's a little different and yet it still draws its roots from corvette heritage, granted it's a c2 option.

OHSIX,
The lower portion of the L88 hood is similar to the LT1/BB, but it is a larger bulge. The upper portion adds another ~1.5 inches. My L88 manifold is about 1.5" taller than the QJet variety. There was not enough room to use a 1" spacer on my manifold and still fit under the L88 hood, I had to mill it down to 3/4".
The plain small block hood, another very smooth and elegant style, will not accommodate an LT1 engine very well. The LT1 manifold is also about 1.5" taller than the small block QJet variety.
Depending on what engine you are going to use, you do have some choices. As much as I prefer the LT1 hood over the L88, the very functional cold air package is critical to my getting away with 12:1 compression.
There is a big difference sitting behind a L88 hood vs. the LT1 hood. Half the windshield seems to be blocked. Not really, but it sure seems like it. From the front, the L88 has a definite "in your face" look. The L88 is not a discreet hood. The LT1 and even the small block hood are all about style, and style only. The L88 hood was ruined, IMHO, because it was so over copied a few years ago by every Pinto, Vega, pickup, etc. The L88 hood style is better than most high rise designs, but it definitely has an attitude. But if it covers the real thing ..., as they say "It ain't bragging if you can do it!"

L-88 with airbox. Unless on a racetrack, I like cars to look as factory as possible, even if there is nothing factory underneath.
