80 Rebuild (Van Steel)
The 80 (L-48) is nearing rebuild time. I spoke with Art from Van Steel today and scheduled a drop off date. The initial plan was to have the engine rebuilt with respectable power (I'm guessing around 300hp), rebuild the TH350, and add a new rear spring. Following the inspection and some guidance from John and Art, I've decided to complete the L-48, replace the tranny (700R4), step up to 3:73 rear end, and a number of suspension issues are being resolved. The grand total is reasonalbe. The only issue I may have is the old tranny. It's in good shape as is, but I'd like to get some type of return on it. Maybe sell it to a salvage yard, or a forum member. I don't know of anyone interested at this time. Anyway, Van Steel is coming through for me. I'll have an update in a couple of months.

Re: 80 Rebuild (Tonwoo28)
Sounds like a good plan.
You will like the 700R4 alot more than the 350C tranny.
The 3.73 gears and the 700R4 are great for getting moving quickly, if you have lots of traction. I have that combo behind a ZZ4 crate motor and I get tons of tire spin and nice burnouts. I am using 26" tall tires with this, I would think that 28" tires would be better, or going to a 3.55 series gears would be even better. If you plan on racing and using slicks, the 3.73's would be great. If you plan on daily driving, the 3.73's will be tolerable unless in the rain a lot.
If you drive interstate speeds, you may want to try 3.55's instead. It's all a mater of personal preference though.

Re: 80 Rebuild (BSeery)
I've have given some consideration to 3:55 gears. John and Art (Van Steel) suggested the 3:73s because the owners of the Hot Rods, they often build, usually go that route. I'll probably never see a track, therefore I may go with the 3:55s. I'll let you know.
