Default Help, sputtering at 4000rpm only in 4th gear

Hi

I am puzzled by this problem. I have a 69 427ci bb with a holley 4150 and in 4th gear at 4000 rpm it just starts to die. I drop back down to 3500 and the engine runs fine. If i put the clutch in, i can rev all the way past 4000. I tried removing the air cleaner and making a run, but i still have the same problem. Any ideas or suggestions would be very helpful

Thanks
Sohrab

I would check the fuel filter(s) first to make sure they are not restricting the fuel flow. If you have a stone filter in the carburetor, replace it with a paper element type (leave it out if you have n in-line filter) Next check the fuel pump for sufficient volume.
