Default question about oil temp gauge

My vette had an inoperative oil temp gauge. I wired it up...pretty sure I wired it properly. When I ground the sender wire the needle moves all the way to the right. I have the oil temp and oil pressure mounted behind the distributor. I tried to mount it near the oil filter, but the port by the oil filter must have a plug because I can't get oil to flow thru that port. I have tried to see up in there but to no avail. When I pull the engine I'll fix that. The oil pressure gauge works just fine. I'm starting to wonder if maybe the hot oil is not reaching the oil temp sender because it is connect with a "t". Could this be the case? Any other suggestions?

No, T fitting will not hinder oil pressure...if you disconnect, you will see oil at every end.
