Search for 16" tires making me BONKERS...HELP!
I'm considering 16" rims for my '76 (most likely the Torque Thrust D's), but having a hard time finding a 16" tire with the height required to fill the wheel well (approx 27", as was stock)
I've been to a few websites: Tire Rack, BFGoodrich, Bridgestone, but finding nothing :(
I don't even know if this tire exists, but from calculations, a 255/55/16 would be perfect, a 235/60/16 would be close.
Suggestions??? (I hate emtpy wheel wells :yesnod: )
Thanks

I run 255/50ZR16's, so there are more choices. The tires are smaller by about 1" in diameter, but my car is lowered so, filling the wheel well isn't a problem. The only 16" tire I could find on the Tire Rack site, that was close to 27" was the General Ameri-GS60 in 255/60TR16 (26.8" in overall diameter). Definitely not a performance tire, but it certainly comes closer to the stock 27" diameter.

Wow, lowering your car sure does help...that looks AWESOME! And the 255/50/16's are only 5% less circumference, so speedo should be pretty accurate (did you ever test the speedo by using mile marker signs?), if they are even THAT accurate from factory anyway!?!?!
I was about to give up on 16's and try 17's (although 16's look best on C3, IMHO), now lowering may be the answer!
Thanks for the input

Nice shot Mark! :yesnod:
I followed Mark70's lead a few years back. I'm using Goodyear HP-Ultra's, 255-50-16's on 16x8 TTII's. These tires are for "dry" pavement only and are rated poorly in the wet, which is only when I drive my Vette.

Tell me about it, I need 16" tires for my 12" wide rear and 10" wide front rims and the only ones I have found are hoosiers for the rear and nothing for fronts :(

I'm running a 225/60 z 16 SZ50EP Firehawk tire. Its about 26.7 diameter and is about as good a performance tire as you can get.

Looks like 255/50/16's fit nicely (lowered and not lowered).
OK, back to Tirerack.com
Thanks for all the input

245-50-16 BFG KDW on Vintage 45 wheels. A little smaller in diameter but I also lowered my car. It occasionally scrapes a pipe but looks TOO cool.
Next set in the back will be 255-50-16 drag radials.
