Default ZZ4 people, how have you modified your engines for more power?

Not that I have any money do do any thing with these days. I just felt the nede to start a discussion on crate motor horse power and since i have a ZZ4 w/ ported heads and intake figured i should ask the question. She is good for 385hp/410 tq. But i have the stock roller cam that comes with the ZZ4. What roller cam would you recommend for a cam swap ( as long as power remains in low RPM) I like the car to erally open up around 3500RPM. What manifold changes have you guys made if any? Carberator will need changing as well, as i'm using the old Q-jet. This is not a daily driver but a weekend car.

Do you have the HOT Cam and 1:5 roller rockers? That might help or you can put the FAST BURN heads on and get some awesome power that way.  :seeya

I have the HOTCAM....and in your situation with looking for the power range around 3500 i would suggest the HOTCAM and the Edelbrock RPM air gap intake......

I love the hotcam, but I am all about racing and high end HP....so the hotcam wasnt the optimal choice but I recieved it as a gift and it works great...BTW get the kit with hte 1.6 rockers.. And I would also like to throw on a single plane hi-intake. i just threw on a speed demon 750 carb as well.
And of course, im spraying and the zz4 handles it great :jester

I went to a LPE Super Ram with 38lb injectors, ported ZZ4 heads with 1.6 exhuast valves, heads flow 198cfm on intake and 188 on Exhaust.MSD 6AL, Hooker Super comp headers, and a Crane 5.10/5.28 lift cam (works fine with the LT4 springs installed @110 lbs), 1.5 roller rocker(all of which work under C4 Magnisium valve covers). This came tunes better than the HOT cam with FI. The 75 this is in has a ROD 6-spd and 3.36 gears. At 6,000 ft the car has ran a best of 13.48(12.50 Sea Level) and gets 24 mpg at 75. :auto:

In a couple of days I should have my ZZ4 running with new fast burn heads, LT4 hot cam, 1.6 rockers and Edelbrock Vortec Air Gap intake. I may have to change the edelbrock 750 though....... we'll see. As soon as that's done it's back in the shop for a transmission change. My mechanic wants me to put in a ROD 6 speed as he is familiar with them. I've been looking at the Tremec TKO 5 speed instead. I just haven't decided yet. Anyone wanna voice their opinion to help me make a decision? :banghead:

Here's what a popular chevy crate engine dealer does to upgrade the ZZ4 -
1. 385 HP- Ported ZZ4 cylinder heads and match ported intake manifold.
2. 395 HP- #1 plus an Edelbrock RPM intake manifold. 395HP/416lbs torque
3. 400 HP- #1 & #2 plus roller rockers with a ratio of 1.5. 400HP/420lbs of torque
4. 420 HP- #1, #2 & #3. LT-4 H.O.T. cam with 1.6 roller rockers. 420HP/427lbs of torque.
5. 440 HP- #1, #2, #3, #4 add a Edlebrock Victor Jr. intake & increase in valve size - 2.000" intake and 1.560" exhaust. 440HP/437lbs of torque.

Older than Dirt....depends on what you are going to use the car for and your current rear gears....if anything more than 3.55, go the ROD6 with a ~3.01 first gear or lower numerical. If its a 3.55, 3.36 or 3.08, the Tremec would be my choice. But if you are going to use the car for racing, then the ROD would be better due to the closer gear ratios.
