Windshield Wiper Pump Rebuild?
Has anyone had success on rebuilding the washer pump? The wipers on my '74 work, the washer pump activates and moves up and down in the housing, but I still do not get any fluid. I bought a rebuild kit which consisted of a few o-rings and a new platic outside plate held in place with four screws. I reassembled the unit but to no avail. Is there a large o-ring or something addtional that needs to be replaced on the large plunger inside the pump? I does not seem to be creating any pressure and/or suction to pull the fluid from the resevoir.
Thanks Ron

Try priming the pump. Take a length of rubber tubing fitted to the pump intake and fill with water. Start the pump. Sometimes this is all that's needed to get it going. :chevy

You should be able to replace the pump portion of the assembly. You might also try a hardware store for the piston o-ring. These things are not very complicated, if it strokes it should pump.

Thank you all for your replies. I realize that I could replace the pump, but thought I would attempt to get the original going if at all possible.
I will give priming the pump a try and then take a look at relacing the o-ring.
Thanks again.
