Fuel tank Anti-Squeak strips alternative?
Anyone know of an alternative material for the Anti-Squeak strips the fuel tank sits on? Can order them but shipping cost more than the strips. Went to Home Depot looked at #30 roofing felt, but they only sell in huge rolls.

I hear you on this one. Lucky I live near ZIP! You know, there are just some parts for our Corvettes that make me say... "What the #$%(, are you kidding me?"
The roofing paper would probably work. Any new homes in your area???? ;)

Just drive around any area that's got new house construction, you should be able to find all you want for the picking.

The material is called roofing felt. It is the tar-impregnated paper that goes under the roof shingles. As suggested, go to any construction site where they are roofing and ask for three feet of it. The stuff that is on your car is thicker than roofing felt. I doubled mine over and it worked well.

Go to any new large housing development which is installing a private golf course and ponds. There you will find heavy gauge type neoprene membrane they line the ponds with. Comes in massive sheets, dark gray/black in color, they always have large pieces left over, great stuff! Also some of the flat bed trucks that strap/chain down large PVC/drainage/ductial pipe use thick 1/4"-1/8" rubber strips between the chain and the pipe, you can cut the strips to any width and size, and the stuff is tough as nails, great for any squeaks/strapping your doing :seeya

I used thick roofing felt folded over to double the thickness. Has worked fine for 2 years. Avoid the stuff with the chippings fixed to it :jester
