Up On Jackstands, Again.
I have my car back up on jackstands so that I can pull the old 4 speed and put in the new 5 speed. I was just wondering should I pull the wheels while the car sets in the air. What are some opinions on this guys. It may set for a week or three or four. What say you?

While ya got it up in the air.....
check calipers for seepage
swap out old brake fluid if ya havent done it in a while
adjust parking brake
paint frame
rebuild engine
put in 4.10s
paint hood
just a few ideas.... :jester

I'd pull the wheels since I need all the clearance I can get, with the wheels off you have more manuevering room. When I installed my TH400, the car was on stands and I slid the tranny in on a board through the front wheel well. You won't have to worry but on an automatic, it takes a pretty tall set of stands to get enough room to clear the bell.

I left my car in the air for a while when I first bought mine while I was doing the numberous gasket/rear seal changes and my RR shock sprung a leak due to that!!
I supposed the shocks were old (but the were still pretty clean) so I replaced them too.

My thoughts would be....
Go buy some 2 x 6's... cut'em up into short sections(12" or so)... and stack them up under each wheel to let the vette sit like it is on the ground. And use the jacks as a back-up. When's the last time you were under the vette to see how everything looks after 33 years?

I got the shifter out, the tranny mounts out, clutch linkage disconnected, starter removed. The tranny is slid as far back as I could get it. I could still not get it out. So I cleaned up came in the house and asked the forum for help. Gordonm suggested I turn my tranny on its side and take it out. I haven't been back out there to give that a try. Been working 12 hours a day at work and am bushed when I get home most mornings. I will get back out there tomorrow if not this evening.

Non removable crossmember route here. I don't have the tools to go that route.
I finally got the tranny out this evening in about 15 minutes worth of work and one busted knuckle. Should have used the box end of the wrench. I had to remove the bellhousing bolts so I could get the tranny out. It let the bell housing move with the tranny and it just slipped right down to me. I didn't use the floor jack to let the tranny down. I just hope I can get the Keisler in there as easily. Stay tuned.
