Take a guess on what my repair bill is going to be
Going to finally pick up my 82 in about 90 minutes.
If any have followed other recent threads, I was having continual problems with air in brakes and rotor runout. Then, lost the right rear bearing.
So, decided to replace - using a Houston Chevy dealer whom I have used for real major repairs, and whom I know the shop foreman.
Wheel bearing assemblies - have new rotors already. Also, have VBP o-ring calipers already.
Strut rods with poly bushings
Parking brake assy and brake cable
U-joints on half shafts - with GM u-joints
Alignment
Rental car for 8 days (includes time to order parts, delivery time, weekend, etc.)
I'm guessing this is going to set me back close to $2K after core refund.
What's your guess?

IT WILL be misery city when you get that tab ....bet since it's a chebby stealer, it will be about 3500 bux....very surprised if much less...very surprised....IF you buddy owned the dealership or was the owner's son...maybe you could get stuff done...good luck....
hope it's done right, they haven't seen a ~25 years old vette in that dealership in over 20 years....meaning no experienced guys online that know jack diddley about that car....

NO, not $3500! Oh Help!
BTW, the work was done by the shop foreman personally! Went by one day and he was in jeans and t-shirt and greasy. Said he was really the only one who knew how to work on that old of a car.
BTW, the wheel bearing assy and struts cost $734 from VBP. That includes $145 for express air freight.
Car rental - 8 days at $36/day (man those cavaliers are fun to drive :steering: ) = $288
Alignment = what, $125 from dealer?
Labor = whoo boy = $800 (think that is what they told me)
U-joints = 4 at $50 (yeah, rip-off, but I have had other aftermarket ones fail rather fast.) = $200
So, excluding shop supplies, bribes, etc. am at about $2,200.

I wish I could - don't have the time, nor the setup and tools, nor enought knowledge. Fortunately, I will have about half paid by my company, balance out of my pocket. That does help.

I'd get a shop quote, do the work myself and pocket the money from the Co. Killing a lot of birds with one stone, fun while wrenching and at the same time pocketing money for mods. Hell, the more you do the faster you have money for some go fast goodies :D

OUCH!! I got sticker shock from the locals, looking to do things a bit at a time, too. Here is what I'm looking at now, after talking with the guys at Van Steel. Sounds pretty good to me...

OK, here is the damage:
Rental car = $377 (10 days, I know, but that includes a weekend and shipping time).
Installation, etc. of all the above = $960
Now that is a deal - to me at least. After subtracting my "work allowance", cost me $186
Now, what was that about doing the repairs yourself?

 $3K
Sorry for the bad news Larry but I was forced to stop buying rear end parts at $3K and installed parts myself. But that did include new ring & pinion and exhaust system. :yesnod:
