How Much Oil Pressure Is To Much?
I idle at 35 psi. At speed it seems to be in the 60 psi area.
The guage is new, but had a little problem with the installed. Everytime we bled it leaked. So, sorta gave up on getting all the air out.

Your oil pressure sounds fine.

Re: How Much Oil Pressure Is To Much? (OHSIXX)
I get 70 psi at cold at 1800 rpm
when she warms up
idle at 750rpm 35psi
about 1900 to 2000 rpm the needle got to 62.
I asked my engine builder about "too much psi" and he explained to me that there is a "blowoff" part of the oil pump to prevent too much oil pressure.
dunno if thats true or not, but Ill bite
cheers

Smokey Yunick's rule was 10psi for every 1000 rpm. He claiimed it can be just as deadly to have too much pressure at low idle as to not have enough at high rpm. My understanding is most NASCAR cars try to adhere to that.

You know you are running too high a pressure when you start blowing by all your 20 yr old gaskets that "seemed" to work before you changed pumps. Seriously tho, I run at near 80 at freeway speeds and around 30 at idle. I switched over to a Melling pump when I cleanup the bottom end.

I'm 30 - 80 as well. I also agree with Smokey, thats why after I put in a new oil pump and saw that I had 80psi, I started shifting at 8000. (just kidding)

when you have high oil pressure there is a slight loss in horsepower part due to the running of the oil pump to acheive high presure and part do to the friction of having to move through the oil at high presure
haveing said that unless you are in a hard core race car than it is worth the miner hp loss for te gained protection
