73-75; want different intake & keep cowl induction
We tossed this around yesterday. Looking to change intakes BUT retain all of the cowl induction hood features.
L-82 or Edlebrock Performer or maybe something else. Ideas? What do you people have on your 73-75s with the cowl hoods? Thank You!

Just my $.02 here but really guys, more info is needed to properly answer his queston. The cowl induction part of the hood does not connect to the intake manifold and will "work" no matter what intake he installs. If he wants to retain close to stock height from the carb to the hood AND use the stock aircleaner assembly then we need to know what carb he's planning on installing.
I'm going to assume he wants to use the stock cowl induction air cleaner assembly AND that he's changing the carb to something else. OTHERWISE the performance gain with just an intake change is extremely small and not really worth the change.
The 2101 is very close in height to the stock manifold. But if he's going to be installing a Holley then the game changes. Some of the new Holley's will not mate with the cowl induction air cleaner assembly because the float bowls interfere with the drop base.
For example I use a Holley Street Avenger on a 2101 performer. It is taller then the stock manifold and Qjet assembly. BUT the cowl induction air cleaner will not fit on the carb. But I have to use an open filter so I removed the little door from inside the hood and deactivated the switch so that the air flows thru there all the time.

Re: 73-75; want different intake & keep cowl induction (OnlyC3-4me)
On my 73 I have installed an OEM winters high rise aluminum manifold #3959594 and a holley #6239 combination that is from an LT1 350. The combination works really well and helped the stock engine breath and perform alot better. The stock air cleaner for that combination with a K&N filter has no problem fitting under with all the cowl induction in place. The only change you will have to do is change the fuel pump and line. The carb is a 780CFM which on the Forum I have seen folks post would be too much for the engine, but with a rebuild, power valves change, and experimenting with the jets I have this combo working great  It's not the cheapest alternative you can do, but I wanted the OEM stock look and keep things as original as I could and it looks great....good luck :steering:

I'm using one of the the GM performance intakes which was about an inch taller the the stock intake. The metal ring that drop into the top of the air cleaner steps up about an inch, I had that step cut out of mine so the ring sets flush with the top of the air cleaner, now everything looks stock and still seals against the stock hood.

I guess I need to repost the pictures since they seem to have disappeared. This intake and carb combo worked out great. I was able to use the stock hood, air cleaner, choke linkage , fuel line and throttle linkage. Here's the pics:
I have since added wire looms to tidy up the plug wires.
Edit: OK, I guess the picture still aren't posting correctly. I'll see if I can fix it.
