How Far Do Side Pipes Drop Below The Car? (pic)
My driveway rises from the street to a flat sidewalk and then inclines to the garage. Trying to figure out it these side pipes will be to low.

Re: How Far Do Side Pipes Drop Below The Car? (OHSIXX)
A measurement I cannot give, but I have a driveway with a decent grade and when my pipes were on the car, there was no scraping from the street or garage. If memory serves, that little spoiler on the bottom of the front is lower than the pipes.

Good point about the spoiler. I am going to go measure it. :)

Re: How Far Do Side Pipes Drop Below The Car? (OHSIXX)
The lowest point on my car is right behind the front tire because of the monster tires I have on the back. If you measure from the top of your existing rocker panel at the front, it goes down 3-3/4". The main "barrel" of the pipe "cover" is about 1/2" lower than that. Since we may have different suspensions and ride heights, that's the safest way to measure.

Re: How Far Do Side Pipes Drop Below The Car? (Rolling Thunder)
Dave: That is the best info I have so far.
So, if I can clear the driveway by at least 4 1/2 inches it should be alright. Is that the way you see it?
BTW, I am going to do that gas cap thingy, but later. :)

Yes, the only thing that could cause you a problem is your exhaust pipe from the header to the sidepipe where it passes under the frame. It should not be a problem keeping it higher than the bottom of the fiberglass cover.
I think you'll like the cap's effect on what people notice about your car. :yesnod:

Well .....
I just hit a raised bump with mine (new front end and springs - perfect ride height etc...) , caught the pipe in front of where it attaches to the muffler section, and cracked the RH exhaust manifold. Bent the pipe back real good too.
My opinion is - think very carefully about using the stainless pipes. Mine are aluminized and look at what happened !!!
On a stock ride height car, there is about 3.75 inches of height from the bottom of the muffler to the ground.
You can not drive yur car on a standard 4 post ramp setup (muffler shop, repair shop, alignment shop etc...)
It has to be ilfted with special attachments used on a 2 post lift.
Just some food for thought ....

Bill: Darn! I hate to hear that.
I could save over $200 going with aluminized. Maybe I will.
Anyway, I finally got some decent measurements about the driveway. Looks like I have about 5 1/2 inches of clearance which should be plenty. Feeling sorta good about that. :)

Are you using headers or stock manifolds? Just curious, has nothing to do with the height.

Re: How Far Do Side Pipes Drop Below The Car? (Rolling Thunder)
Yep! Gotta love that cap. I am gonna need some of your help down the road.
Some of my plans are finally coming together . Soon, I will be installing the L88 Hood and Side Pipes. At the same time, I have been waiting on a Chrome A6 AC Compressor for weeks. My AC brackets are out for plating due back in other week or so. Then I have to close up the exhaust outlets before sending it to the painter.
Is this a sickness, or what?

OHSIXX, are you still going to be using headers with those new side mufflers...if so, how? i want to use headers on mine, but the only solution i can come up with is shorty sanderson headers and some modification to the down pipe on the exhuast to the side muffler.

Re: How Far Do Side Pipes Drop Below The Car? (Redshark6974)
I had the headers installed at a muffler shop. They bend pipes. I went back down there and asked if I could use my headers with side pipes and he said yes.
Since you asked the question, I am going to double check with him again next week.

Mine are not the stock ones, and hang a lot lower than stock. (Check Web page) I have an incline going into the garage, so I use a board (ramp) for going in and out. At the driveway, I just enter diagonally, elliminates any rubbing!
Good Luck!
