Question about trailing a '75
In a few weeks I have to make a trip to pick up my Dad's '75. I currently do not have a trailer so I need to get one. I'm not looking for anything special since I'll probably sell it in a few months. My question is will a 16' trailer be OK for a '75 or do I have to get an 18'?

Re: Question about trailing a '75 (Thumper)
What about just renting a car hauler from U-Haul. It will cost you $60 per day, in town. One way is a bit more. But I've towed my 85 using their trailer and have had no issues.
I'd rather use their crap than buy my own...

Re: Question about trailing a '75 (joeveto)
Renting from U-haul was my plan originally but when I called them they quoted me $750 from Toledo, Ohio to Dallas, TX. I figured for that kind of money I could buy my own trailer, use it then sell it and take a lot less than a $700 hit!!!

Re: Question about trailing a '75 (Thumper)
I just trailered my 75 from NC to NY using a Uhaul truck and car trailer. My experience with Uhaul was terrible! The truck was a total POS and we thought we would never finish the trip in one piece. I complained to Uhaul about the truck and they said that it should never have been used for a one way trip because it was basically unroadworthy and is out for extensive repairs. They refused to give me any money back because they say I should have called the 800 number and requested a better truck so basically it was all my fault. If you need a car hauler try Budget or Ryder but whatever you do stay clear of Uhaul!!! :mad

A 16' trailer will work fine. That's what I have and use it to haul Corvettes from time to time. You should try to get a beaver tail for loading a Corvette. That little bit of an angle on the back of the trailer makes a big difference in loading a low profile vehicle. Mine is not one and loading a Corvette requires some really long ramps and jacking up the front of the trailer.

My trailer is a 14' deck and it works fine. I've towed my '73 and my '74 on it (not to mention anything from a '39 chev to an '85 Riviera). a week ago last Saturday I (with the help of 75rag & 1bad69) trailered my newly aquired '73 from London Ontario to the Niagara area without any problems.

I pulled my 72 to my home in Maryland from Michigan, using a car dolly pulled by my 95 Toyota Tacoma PU. Even went across the Penn. Turnpike mountains and all!

I've used U-Haul 3 times - never a problem. The first time was with a car dolley - Chicago to Houston. I won't do that again.
The other 2 times I've used the full trailer ( Houston to Chicago and Local )and that is definitely the way to go. They should be charging you by the day and I guess @ 70.00 per day it could run 700.00.

Re: Question about trailing a '75 (sray454)
Thanks for all the input. I think I'll call U-haul one last time. Last time they said $700 for 5 days. I told them I would only need it for 3 days but they said that was the standard. I'm looking at a few trailers right now on e-bay. There are a few companies that can make one and the 16' are cheaper than the 18' so maybe I'll see how much for a 16' beaver tail. Thanks again for the input.

I agree the full trailer is Definitely the way to go, I was just offering another suggestion with the car dolly, that I have used in the past, with success.
