found a 700r4....advise me
hello guys, i have found a 700r4 finally, for quite a good deal, matter of fact too good to pass up
what i need to know is, how is this tranny going to hold up? im going to put in a shift kit if recommended, and a higher stall converter.
give me all the info if you dont care, and btw, this has 70,000 miles on it, but they are all old peoples miles.
thinks this is worth the install?
btw, i have a 79 corvette, removable crossmember
thanks in advance

Shark, I recommend a complete and total rebuild...no matter what....
shift kit, O rings, maybe even steels.....not all that hard, just time/education consuming..go to the locak tranny parts wholesaler in your YP's and have a good education while doing it...take your time....read up...and i'ts not all that complicated....if I can do these thing with no training and so far a success rate of 2 for 2....well....so can you....the genie about auto trans has been unmasked....

What is important is what year vehicle did the trans come out of, you are looking for a later version of the 700 r4 with the improved pump section and....something else  - someone who really knows will have to chime in - early 700 r4s are poopie...

Make sure it's an '87 and up unit. If not, the builder will have to upgrade various parts including the front pump in order for it to hold up....
