How do YOU dress your gaskets...?
Well after three months of not working on the vette I finally have the short block together. Today I will be doing the final assembly on my 355. In an attempt to seal everything so there are no leaks, I'd like to know the best way to dress all the gaskets.
So, what do you put on your gaskets, and where do you put it?
These are the gaskets I will be using.
Head: Fel-Pro 1044 Permatorque (to reduce compression)
Pan: Fel-Pro one piece blue (complements of forum member "Fever") Thanks Chris...!!!
Intake: Fel-Pro 1205
Timing cover set: Fel-Pro 2702
Rtv on the intake water ports? Rtv instead of gaskets on front cover? I need to pick your brains so I can get this vette back on the road for at least one drive, before she is stored for the winter again. Temp this morning here was 35*F.

one simple thing, NEVER use cork gaskets, they suck.
RTV only on front and rear block rail, around water ports and where the front and rear seals of the pan meet the rail gaskets, if you're using a 4 pc. gasket. Also note, there are 2 thicknesses for the front timing cover to pan gasket, make sure you have the proper one for your engine.

My pleasure Phil, glad the gasket culd be put to use. In the Felpro instructions it states to put a small dab of sealant at the corners where the timing chain cover meets the pan and at back by the rear main seal hump. I just did a reinstall of my gasket and so far I see no leaks so they can be re-used after some cleaning. I just installed my stroker motor and so far so good. Let me know if you need a hand with your install.
If not give me holler when done and we'll get togther to shoot the sh it.

I'd dress them in a string bikini....but the again they'd get blown immediately....
seriously....I use reasonable amounts of RTV sensor safe black in all the 3 way joint spits, like intakes and timing housings/covers...rear mains....
under the rear main cap, just a dap...so oil doesn't sneak past that joint in spite of the bolt torque....
I hate cork too....toss it....leak like crazy about 80% of the time....
