Default Pulling the engine out of a 74'

Hey all you C3 guys !!! :seeya I need some help, please......

I have to pull the engine out of Sassi (Titania's 74' Vette) tomorrow. I know what needs to happen to pull it but I just wanted to check with you guys (the experts) to see if there was any little "surprises" the C3 may challenge me with.

Thanks in advance.

Neal

How? Cherry picker or overhead engine hoist? If you rent a picker, you will have to position it on the side of the car. The picker's boom is not long enough if it's positioned in front of the vette.

Make sure you take off the fuel pump and don't install it again until you have the engine reinstalled. I tried to install my engine with it attached and boogered it up on the control arms. Brand new pump down the drain. :mad

if your dropping the tranny with the motor, its better to have the radiator support out. much more room to work with! good luck!

I pulled the engine on my '74 with the car on my car trailer and went in from the drivers side with a cherry picker. we stripped the front of the engine of the fan, Alt., Power Sterring, Etc. and lifted the engine out. there is enough room but you have to be very careful. the engine went back in the same way.

Pull off the exhaust manifolds before pulling the motor....... Easier to clear the a/c box and master cylinder....

Good luck

I pulled my the engine and trans out of my '74 in one piece using a cherry picker engine hoise from the front with the radiator support still installed. Reinstalled it exactly the same way, no problems.

When pulling the eng and splitting the trans apart from it, I find it helpfull the position the picker toward the front of the car about 5 or 6 inches so when the eng breaks free of the trans it will naturally want to swing forward far enough for the clutch to clear the trans input shaft. I have had to kick the picker legs to slide them forward if I have not postioned it just right. When reintalling I postion it the about 3 inches toward the back of the car, you will have to pull the eng forward just a touch as it gets near the input shaft.
