How "lopey" should the idle be on a stock '69 L-36 427?
Doing some fine tweaking on my new Lars-rebuilt carb. The idle is a little lopey/shakey (nothing major, just enough so I notice it in comparison to my daily driver 2001 Silverado). Is that normal for an L-36 with stock cam or should I keep looking for causes?

It should have a lope, but a small one. The L-36 was the entry level 427, I don't have the specs right off hand, but it wasn't radical when compared to the L-89, and L-88.

Mine has a slight lope most noticable when cold. I don't know if my cam was changed so don't take my word for it. I kinda wondered the same thing.

My '68 L36 was pretty smooth at idle with the stock cam. Just a hint of "lope". Definitely more noticeable than what you'd expect for a pass car these days, though. These motors weren't all that radical. Keep in mind that the 427/390 was also installed in the big Impalas of the days (of course, they were rated at 385 for THAT application, but hey, you couldn't sell a Corvette that had less power than the family hauler. Could you?) The specs for that cam are pretty tame compared to even what you would consider a "mild" after market cam these days.

I have a stock L36 and the idle is as others have so far described- fairly smooth but not like the idle on today's cars. I attribute it to the sound and feel from the dual exhaust that makes things seem "less smooth" if that makes any sense. I love standing behind the car and hearing that sound, btw :yesnod:
