Yesterday I searched the archives and found a thread that had a link to an evaporator box removal, with great pics from the engine compartment side. Today I can't find that thread. I have my motor out and want to know how much of a PITA it is to open the box up and clean it out. I'm putting a new blower motor in also. This is all a part of getting my A/C working while the motor is out deal. So....does anybody have pic's of the box removal? Oh, it's a '79. Thanks

Jeez, here we go, nudes and nut sizes.....7/16 and take the dash apart on the pass side...and then there are about 8 bolts through the firewall...around the perimeter of the air box....then when all of them are out...there are 2 of them up under where GOD and his angels can't see...one of them is allways reverse direction for some reason only the dead engineers knew about....

so pulling all those bolts...and you have to then fight the tar/dope sealant around the boxes...it's dry as hell and hard to remove...better to fight it than do the gasoline trick..keeping the smell and mess down...

you need pull the center cluster and the pass side dash parts out...if you have a LATE shark,....I THINK you can do it without removing the dash entirely....

I recall that I only had one bolt on the inside and the rest where in the engine compartment hopefully it doesnt look like this.........

yeah, one bolt is accessible from the pass. side footwell area, you have to remove the carpet to get to it.

I have a few pictures here from where I rebuilt mine. It should be a piece of cake without the engine installed. I had to drop the header to get mine off and back in with the engine still in the car. Think I got my rebuilt kit from Dr. Rebuild for around $40. It's a must to do the job and might as well replace the heater core while you at it...$50 at Advance Auto and dont' forget to have it pressure checked before installing, this is something you don't want to do again. 4 bolts on the inside and a few to split the case outside and you have it out.
