L-46 heads
my 70 L-46 heads are sucking oil by the valve guides, and was thinking to replace the heads with aluminum ones, but don't know what size cc the stock heads are. rebuilding the cast ones would be cheaper, but i'm looking for better. not cheeper.any help on combustion chamber size on stock heads would be great. :seeya :flag

Re: L-46 heads (dash8)
My L-46 had 3927186 heads, which have 64cc chambers, 2.02/1.60 valves. This is actually a very good head for factory original, but there are a lot of better flowing heads available.

64cc on the chamber volume. I had a big problem with my heads sucking oil thru guides too. A qt every 300mi or so. fouling plugs and everything. I removed the stock seals and went with Crane Cams positive valve seals. they lock down over the guide and stay down, unlike the umbrella seals that ride with the stem. The positive locking seals totally cured the oil controll problem. Crane # 99819 if you still have the stock diameter guides. There are other sizes available if the guides were changed to different outside diameter ones. They fit without any machining required. I'll never put togeather any SB heads without them.
