Default Help Hood is stuck down

I replaced the hood latch cross cable, and then it came off when the hood was down. Now the hood is still latched on the passenger side of the car. This is a 71. I took the gill off and can get my arm up there, but not enough to get the latch to budge. I think I can feel the latch but because of where it sits I cannot see it or turn it. Does anybody know how to get it unlatched? :banghead:

I had the same problem when I was adjusuting the latches on my hood. I laid on my back and reached up there with my hand. I got pretty cut up the first few times and then realized to wear a glove use a screwdriver handle to push the latch to the side to get the hood to pop up. You will need lighting.

Good luck.

I know on the later C3's there are rubber grommets in line with each latch. Remove the grommet and insert a long screwdriver or similar item and pop the latch. I assume yours has it also. Good Luck

Thanks 72GACRZR. I appreciate it. I tried for about an hour and a half last night. I was very frustrated this morning when I went to the garage to see it still down. I will try the technique in the article this evening after work.

Your welcome. That's what we are all here for to help when we can. I don't know as much as most, but I am darn lucky on doing searches.

Clown Puncher....

If you are still *stuck* the next time you check in here's something I ended up doing to get my hood on my '74 unstuck. Although the hood designs are completely different if you can get the driver's side open then you can try it as an option. Like you, my passenger side was seriously stuck as when I installed the hood after putting in the new engine I should have done some more testing of the fit before I closed it. Just because you mark where the brackets were mounted to the hood does not mean it's back the same. Trust me!

So... here we go. Go down to your local Home Depot and buy a 6ft long round rod of 1/4" steel or aluminum. Steel will be cheaper. Just ask and they can direct you to it. After you get it create a 90 degree hook(1-2 " long) on one end and make a longer one on the other end as a handle. Be sure both bent areas are on the same plane so you will know what angle the small hook is when you slide it under the hood. From the small hook end measure 39 1/2" towards the big hook end and mark it. I also have a '71 so I just went and measured things. You will need to slightly pry open the driver's side hood in the back just enough that you can slide that rod underneath and find something to keep it propped open that won't damage the paint. Put a towel or something on the fender and slide the rod under the hood towards the other side to the mark you made on the rod. and you will want the hook pointed towards the back of the car. The latch mechanism on the passenger side will need to be pulled towards you to release that side. It is approximately 6" from the back of the hood on the passenger side. Fish around a few times and pull back when you think you have it. You'll know it when you do as you will feel the spring action. I opened my '74 hood 4-5 times before I figured out what the real problem was. I put some white paint on the hood latch **** and slightly pressed down on the hood(not enough to latch) and found that I needed to adjust it a good 3/8" to one side to not have the hood lock to one side where the cable could not help.

Been there done that. And also undid the front of the hood from the wheel well one time in desperation. Not fun at all. Tone up on your curse words if you go to those means.
